My credit union has been known to hand over $50s and $100s without asking first. I've had to stop them and ask for smaller bills.

I'd definitely call the corporate phone number and complain.

And if/when you do, please update us.

So if they don't accept $50's they should have said there and then, it sucks that places might instantly terminate someone for accepting a large bill on the premis that it might be counterfiet and I wouldn't risk my job over a duff note, but what if its all in fives and they are counterfiet.
one thing you have to remeber is this. the OP stated they used the pizza places web site to place the order AND the OP put a note on the order that a $50 was being used to pay for the order.

Now the Big3 pizza places ie Pizza Hut, Poppa Johns and Dominos all have a centralized online ordering web site. This means that you go to one web site and place your order on-line order. the national web site determines which store to send your order to and sends it there. the web site does NOT usually take into account local conditions set down by the local store or franchise owner other than general limits on your menu selection. the local conditions can include no personal checks, large bill restrictions, etc. Merely placing a note on the order does not guarrentee that note will be noticed or abided by at the local store.

this situation is akin to what happened at my franchise a littel overa a year ago. my franchise made the "business decision" to overflow their phone system to an inbound call center. AND some stores had ALL of their calls routed to said call center. the "on the ground" people (including the store managers) were led to believe that the local conditions would be honored and strictly adhered to ie. no check and NO large bills for small orders.

BOY were we WRONG. besides many totally messed up orders, rude ignorant and VERY pushy CSRs, all of our local conditions were ignored. every single night I worked we had checks popped on us, large bills for small orders galore, messed up instructions, and more complaints than we had EVER had before esp concerning checks and large bills.

customer were "told and assured" by the call cetner CSRs that yes indeed we accepted checks and large bills and we were left to deal with the firestorm that ensued. no real help from upper management (who just seemed to be deaf to our situation and plight)
I'm lost without a paddle and I'm headed up sh*t creek.

"I didn't read your message" is a sorry excuse. If the web site doesn't pass those notes on to the store with the order, that's corporate's fault; if the people in the store can't be bothered to read them and respond appropriately, that's their fault. In no case is it the customer's.

As for getting large bills... well, does it not depend on how much cash you're going to be carrying? If you're the type who, for whatever reason (and there are legitimate ones), takes the whole paycheck out in cash, it makes sense to get part of it in large bills so that they will all fit into a wallet. $500, say, in 20's will not, but $200 in 20's and three 100's will, and $100 in 20's and four 100's will even better. Having a wallet so fat it won't close is far showier than carrying the same amount in a way that does not draw attention.

This shouldn't be the case, but more often than not, seems to be how it works.
That's why it is even easier to just call the pizza place to make the order instead of going online.

The advantages of making the order online, then calling to make sure the place has the note are manifold, actually.

            1) You get to see all the specials.
            2) You have as much time as you need to finalize your order.
            3) You don't have to worry about any sort of background noise.
            4) You don't have to worry about other customers/calls.
            5) You have an email record of when the order was submitted.
            6) You have a record of exactly what was ordered in case something goes wrong.

I actually had to refer to #6 once when I got a pizza with no cheese. Turns out instead of hitting double cheese, I opted for none. My fault for not double-checking the order summary properly.

It also is important to look *very carefully* at the confirmation messages, including the email. A while back, both Pizza Hut and Papa John's were running an "any large pizza for $10" special. I ordered from, I think, PH the first week, selected Meat Lover's, and it showed that on that page... but the order went through (and showed up on the email, once I went back to look) as "Meat Lover's no pepperoni no sausage no ham..." etc. Found out when I got there and all they had me was a cheese pizza. They looked at the slip, saw that nobody would *ever* order the way it went through, and very kindly made me another... and the next week Papa John's site did the exact same thing with the exact same special, only I caught it, cancelled the online order, and called them on the phone instead.

I have also sometimes clicked the type button for one half rather than for the whole pizza, but now I know 1) to be careful about that and 2) to recognize, when I get one that's half cheese, that I've messed up. Though I don't think their site works that way anymore.

I've run into the * Lovers pizza with the toppings removed bug, before. I ended up doing an end run around it, but I have no idea what it was I did.
