I didnt want to hijack the sexism thread, but it got me thinking about all the do's and don'ts that American society puts on people especially white males.

I was surfing when I came across a PC site and then after reading it saw red...

Here is the qoute that upset me the most:

Do not use derogatory terms to describe others even if people within the cultural group do.
For example, if a Scottish person tells a joke about Scots, or a southern tells jokes about Alabama that is not permission for others, not in the group, to do the same.

Blow me lady! If I can make fun of my own culture, group, class, race, etc then anyone can. Screw this well you are white so you can't tell Black jokes... screw that. My great-grandmother was Mulatto and a grandfather was 100% Indian (with the feather not the dot). My other grandfather was Irish and I am from the south. And if I can make fun of my heritage then anyone can.

If nigger is a bad word then no matter how you pronounce it, it should be considered bad. I dont go up to people and go hey chink whats up. If I can tell a joke about some group then anyone can. I have told some of the horrible jokes about Blacks, Whites, Asians, Indian's (dot and feather), Half-breeds, Middle Easterners, and the whole damn spectrum.

I am not "special needs" I am fucking disabled. I get disability because I am disabled... god I miss Carlin. Yeah I need help with some shit but don't treat me special because of it. Mencia has it right... if you can't tell a joke to everyone then you can't tell it to anyone.

I am not racist, sexist, or what ever the fracking word is today. I am not gay but that doesn't stop me from telling gay jokes. I am not a man and that doesn't stop me from telling men jokes.. What the hell happened to society...

I will be honest I hate with an unholy passion special groups: NAACP is an example because I know that if I started a NAAEA I would get flamed and threats and stuff.

I have seen the race card played and I have seen the sex card played and both made me want to slap the shit out of the person. Through out history every group has been mistreated by another group.

Sorry for the rant but this has been bugging me for a while. I am so tired of being told that I have to be PC or that I can't do something because I am not in x group, or having to go look up the "pc" word as not to offend someone...

I'm not sure how this all got started ....but it did somewhere and has taken off so PC'ness is invading our daily lives and I for one am over it.

^It IS a good question. For me, this is a real annoyance. I'm a white woman, but I love ethnic clothing and textiles. According to some people, because I am caucasian, I have no business owning, let alone wearing kimono, qipao, sari, or otherwise. I remember reading the blog over at www.racialicious.com, and some of the comments on various entries had me seriously WTF'ing. One chinese-american woman was going on about how offended she was when chinese-inspired fashion was all the rage, and qipao design elements began showing up in western dresses. I guess she doesn't know the history of her qipao, then- that garment is what happened when traditional chinese clothing designs were combined with western styles early in the 20th century. So much for cultural purity! To me, western garb borrowing from the qipao is just inspiration coming full circle.

That said, I believe that if you're going to adopt something from another culture, you should follow a few simple rules, first among them being don't use somebody's stuff if you hate them or look down on them. It would be rather hypocritical to wear a qipao or kimono if you viewed people of asian descent as beneath you, in whatever manner.
It's also good to know something about what you're wearing- you don't have to be able to recite the text of "5000 years of Chinese costume" from memory to wear qipao or hanfu, but knowing what it is you're wearing or using is a good thing.
Likewise,while I enjoy learning about other cultures, and while learning about the garments I love has taught me some things about the people who created them, I don't try to pass myself off as an expert in all things Japanese because I own a few kimono.
We see people like that in Anime fandom- white people who act like complete Japanese wannabes, giving rise to the regrettable term "wapanese".
By wannabe, I mean trying to learn Japanese just from Anime (as opposed to taking actual language classes), and proclaiming themselves experts in Japanese culture, basing their knowlege on Anime depictions of Japanese life and culture, forgetting that while elements of reality are worked into these shows, a lot is also fiction. And yes, some of these people have been observed "correcting" people of actual Japanese descent.
As much as I enjoy various Japanese things, such as food, textiles,history, etc- I'm not gonna carry on like that, no matter how many styles of asian robe hang in my closet.

People need to learn to get over themselves, and quit trying to change anything and everything that might be the least bit offensive. If these people spent less time being offended by everything that upsets them, they might find life a little bit more bearable. If I find someone offensive, I simply tell them to go to hell, kiss my ass, fuck off, or some other such statement of my opinion at the time. It gets my point across that I disapprove. Then, I'm able to get on with the rest of my life because I sure don't give a damn about offending people who act offensive toward me first.

In other words, don't take aim at me unless I'm truly bothering you because I will fire back.

I find the whole PC thing to be a pain in the collective arse. I tell jokes about anyone and everyone. I've told anti women jokes and I happen to be a woman. I have an extremely warped sense of humour and just find a lot of dodgy jokes funny.

It should be the offendee who should have the pressure to change, not the offender, as long as we're not talking about deliberate attack. But if I'm telling blonde jokes and someone's offended, they should just shake loose the stick from their butt and get a life. Or join in the joke telling. XD

Ok Fair warning this might piss some of the members off:

I do not believe in the PC bullshit and I also do not believe in "hate" crimes. A crime is a crime no matter who it is against. Be it being gay, the wrong religion, the wrong class, the wrong color, having a speech problem, you walk funny, your goth, your not goth... There is always someone that isnt going to like you and that can be grounds for most crimes. Bullying is Bullying be it the kid with glasses or the gay kid.

Personally I want them to turn the prisons back into places where your ass doesnt want to be. No fucking cable, no god damned weights *WTF giving murders weights???* No commissary, no computers and make them do the cleaning, the road repair, the ditch digging et al.

But we can't cause that is mean... screw that they broke the rules they go to jail do not pass go do not collect 200 dollars and bitch earn your keep. I am for having classes to help them improve their education or life but only for those that are not lifers. Lifers get hard labor to earn their keep and to give back.

I support equal rights, responsibility, laws, and punishments. Until we stop separating everyone there can be no equality.

I think PC has gone too far in so many ways, and I disagree with the common sentiment that people who roll their eyes at being PC just want an excuse to be rude or say something offensive, because that's not true with most people.

A lot of people can be rude jerks, but it's not about needing an excuse or reason to be rude or insulting....they don't need one. They'll do it anyway.

That's how prisons *should* be. But, you get the bleeding-heart liberals that complain about how such things would be "cruel and unusual punishment. Sorry, but fuck that shit. If it was up to me, prisoners would get nothing more than 3 meals a day, a steel bunk, toilet, and would be locked down most of the day. No TV, no radio, no weight room, etc. They'd be working their asses off--stamping license plates, digging ditches, picking up litter, rehabbing run-down buildings, etc. Don't want to get stuck doing that stuff? Tough shit--it's punishment. It's not supposed to be enjoyable.

I too support equality. But, it seems, that some people are more "equal" than others. All of that "equality" came about because some people are still guilty about things that their ancestors may or may not have done, and they're trying to atone for it. Again, fuck that shit. Why should I, feel guilty for something that happened centuries ago? I had no part of it, nor should I be held "responsible" for it.

Along that line, I'm also not in favor of slavery reparations. Why? I don't think that throwing money at it is the answer. All that'll do, is breed more resentment and hatred.
