  • Internet Adverts

If you watch episodes from thatguywiththeglasses, nostalgia critic, atop the fourth wall etc, chances are you will see the same bloody advert all week
currently each video I've watched last night and today contained O2 priority Katie Perry's 2011 UK tour starting it and one of 3 following.
I don't mind the adverts if it pays for the site, as I don't know if I would pay to watch any of the shows provided even though I like alot of them. what irks me is the sheer lack of advert rotation, I could almost say the drambuie advert word for word last week as it was the ending advert. TV has 50+ adverts a day for varying timeslots so you get a bit of variety, not online, the same 'I don't care about this' time and time again, worse still if the advert isnt localised.

When I first got a mobile phone that allowed streaming video's from my network provider, it used to be just the video, then as they were not charging for content, adverts arrived and again limited rotation. I stopped watching clips of robot chicken as the advert was longer than the clip and I had migrated to mobile broadband and could watch full episodes online (without adverts yay)

another thing that irk's is the way I'm watching it in full screen, click another related video re watch the Katie Perry advert, which upon finishing, reverts the screen to windowed.

on the plus side, I do like the yougottalol end adverts, even if the jokes are lead ups to some kraft product or other

of course it gets worse when they put 2 videos one page, because they usually have an ad play right after, or when the ads screw up and the video itself starts playing at the same time.

I've had that with zero punctuation, I click the link, it starts to stream then the advert stops the video to play itself, only to occasionally fail and play both. this only seems to happen with pop up style framing. least there the adverts are relevant to the site, gaming based and all.

The ads I can understand. Doesn't mean I have to like them. The worst though, have to be the ones...that cause your page to freeze up, until they're finished playing. Seriously? Is it really necessary to force me to watch Ellen Degeneres dance across the page? Sorry, but fuck that. I get annoyed if I can't even click on a link to get away from it. Such actions will not only piss me off...but they'll guarantee that I'' refuse to even look at your product or service.

I watch the Nostalgia Critic too. Hillarious stuff

I accept that ads pay for the site, but that doesn't mean they don't annoy me. The ones I hate are the bing ones, especially that one with the annoying girl singing. Though I guess now you can actually choose which ads you want to view, but that's like picking your poison.

I also hate those ones that cut off the screen in the middle of the video. Some of them don't even have the curtiousy of giving you the X button to click. I mean, I want to see the Nostalgia Critic go insane watching shitty movies, not ads for a search engine I will never use!

Via the nostalgia critic I think ive seen one bing advert and 2 of the 3 cloud ones (the photo one irks me, not as an advert, but as if you couldn't do this before the cloud), I've never really been offered a choice in what advert to endure, the only choice was "im going to play one of 3 SAAB/Cloud adverts, pick one or I will"

I wouldn't mind the adverts if it wasn't the same one for every channel awesome video I watch, I'm really starting to hate Katie Perry now, just cos it's the only damn advert I see before a video and it truely does seem longer than the Zodmas sketches

              That's my biggest pet peeve.

I accept that websites need advertising revenue, and I prefer to watch ads than pay for a subscription in 99% of cases. But once the ads become more time consuming than the content, they've screwed up.

Failblog's bad for this. No one's going to spend five minutes waiting for ads to load and play just to watch a thirty second clip of a guy getting hit in the nuts.

                Sometimes it's not even a nut-shot! That's really disappointing.

Especially annoying when the ad works but the video you were trying to see that brought the ad up in the first place doesn't.

Or when it's set up so that pausing the video to let the buffer fill so it will play properly makes it return to the ad when you release it. Meaning that to see the video at all you *have* to let it play in two-second bursts.

That's what I mean. It was actually annoying at first because you weren't really being given a choice. Choosing which starbucks flavor I want to know about isn't giving me a choice unless "none of the above" is an option. I think it's just a way to get you to pay more attention to their ads.

And I've had it with fail blog. Their videos are 90% filler (whoring their other sites and stupid intros) and 10% content. I prefer funnyvideoarchives which cuts the bullshit and gets to the funny.

I'm annoyed with Failblog lately for a different reason: I have an RSS feed that, until a few weeks ago, brought me "Oddly Specific." That's what I wanted, and that's what I signed up for. They've combined that with the FAILs... which, I admit, is only a minor nuisance, in and of itself. Some of the Fails are funny, and my delete key works fine. But there aren't nearly as many Oddly Specifics as there were before, and the ones that they do have get FAIL stamped across them anyway, even though they're not.

I have no problem with their ad system, however, as they don't put those on RSS.
