And why don't you re-read my last post. Especially this bit

But that is very self-defeating when you factor in the reasons we have them in the first place.
It's called "risk assessment" and it's something I have to do on a daily basis. A. Daily. Basis.

I do network security at my local hospital and I am one of the people on the team that keeps the Electronically Protected Health Information secure from getting released into the world of people who don't really need to know that So-and-So has [insert disease here].

You say that an iPhone is unsecure straight out of the box? You want me to admit it? Fine I'll fucking admit it. I'll also admit that there is a very real possibility of getting a virus infected, brand-spanking new PC straight from the hands of Dell, HP, or any number of the companies that makes the fucking things. I'll admit that there are viruses that can get their grubby protuberances on a brand new Apple computer. That even a *nix based computer can get it's ass hacked into like a child molester's ass in a super-max prison.

As I said in my last post "You want a completely safe computing device? There is only one perfect way to own a computing device and not have it hacked. It is called the "Never install anything on it or even turn the bloody thing on" method.

So I freely admit that having a straight from "Steve Job's sanctified asshole" iPhone is not a 100% Guaranteed method of not having a safe and secured device.

But then again you could have a Blackberry or an Android phone that had the Pope Ejaculate on it and it would still be under the same risk of being hacked straight out of the box as my iPhone.

Again I ask what would you have me do? Chuck the goddamn thing in the bin? Fine I'll do just that. Just send me the $100 that I paid for it, and the $700 it is going to cost me to get whatever smart phone you think I ought to have in its place since I'm not eligible for the discounted pricing until late 2012.

I read your post. I'm merely trying to figure out why you're getting so bent out of shape over someone commenting that the information you gave wouldn't do what you were implying it would do.

Possibly because, as he has mentioned several times, he is not a complete noob when it comes to the subject?

He has repeatedly explained that security is his job, and that he does it on a daily basis.

If I'm not mistaken, he actually has conceded to your point that there is no 100% guarantee of security with the phone, but it seems to me that you could also concede that someone who handles network security as his job would know a thing or two about providing security for his own phone without needing to be beaten over the head with all the information that has been repeatedly posted.
        Point to Ponder:

Is it considered irony when someone on an internet forum makes a post that can be considered to look like it was written by a 3rd grade dropout, and they are poking fun of the fact that another person couldn't spell?

Ree covered most of it. (thank you)

But there is also the simple fact that I'm not the only one who is getting bent out of shape. What started as me agreeing that the Korean hackers(1) suck ass(2), turned into me having to defend the fact that I thought of the possibility of considering buying an iPhone...much less actually buying what some here are considering to be the technological anti-Christ.

A point was brought up, I answered it, it was brought up again, I re-defended it, it was brought up again in such a way that it felt like I was being talked to as if I was a child who barely learned how to not shit in my pants, and so I crossed the "T"(3) and fired off a broadside.

It's not as if I am the only person here on Fratching to have had to do so. Hell I'm not even the first.

          1. Where the majority of WoW hacks, phishing messages and the associated web sites are hosted from.

          2. My post was on the same topic but from a slightly different angle. My WoW was not hacked, but my e-mail attached to it was. An e-mail account that has since been re-secured with a really secure password.

          3. Crossing the "T" is a old Naval Tactic WWII and going back to the age of sail. To get the advantage on a target, a ship would try to put their sides to the bow or the stern of a ship. Thus allowing them to fire all guns on that side as opposed to the few (in any) guns on the enemy ship's bow or stern

First, he never mentioned in this thread until he started over-reacting that he had any special experience other than being a high-level user. If the information isn't in the thread, it shouldn't be expected to be remembered by every potential poster. He's already over-reacting by the time he starts giving out relevant information.

Second, it wasn't my point, and he only conceded in that last post, mostly because it was the focus of his little snark-fest.

And nobody was "beating him over the head." BK posted a link, he made a post that made it appear like he had no awareness of what was in the link, so BK re-iterated.

Perhaps he could have just said, in the beginning, the he knew the risks rather that get all offended over nothing.

You're the only person I see getting "bent out of shape."

You didn't answer it - you explained why most of it was irrelevant and ignored the main point of it.

First off, I don't even know what you were defending, because nobody was attacking or questioning your decisions, only how informed you were. And it was brought up again because you never answered it the first time - you deflected it. Then this time, you went straight to the snark while giving what you later prove wasn't a complete answer.

So because BK isn't omniscient or psychic and doesn't know that you're aware of the issues with the stock iPhone because not only do you not acknowledge that they have issues, but you go on to enumerate why they don't have issues you think you're under attack.

              You know what? I'm done.

I have my iPhone. I am aware of the security flaws of ALL the smart phones on the market. I have secured my phone to the best of my ability.

              End. Of. Discussion.

It's my petard, allow me to be hoisted by it or not.

Can we please get back to the topic of the hackers who delight in fucking WoW users in the ass for fun and profit?

Ok - lets get back on topic regarding the hacking of the WOW account, please.

There's really no need for all of this peripheral discussion. I realize this is a debate site and we typically don't step in, but I really don't see this ending well and would rather not wake up to a room full of fur (having flown).
