    Virus Hoaxes on Facebook

    Holy crap, like I really need my news feed spammed with this crap. The latest one is:

    "Virus spreading like wildfire on Fb and My Space! It is a trojan worm called koobface. It will steal your info,invade your system and shut it down! DO NOT open the link Barack Obama Clinton Scandal! If SmartGirl15 requests you as a friend, don't accept it ;it is a virus. If somebody on your list adds her, you get the virus too! Please copy and paste to your wall."

    One person had the balls to add " Confirmed on SNOPES..please pass it on." I googled it, found the snopes article on it, and while there was a virus call koobface, it had nothing to do with a link to Barack Obama Clinton Scnadal. Nor did it involve someone named SmartGirl15 friending you. Snopes specifically said this version is a hoax. Seriously, gtfo of here with this crap.

    Latest? This thing has been passed around pretty constantly for over a year. And even then, it's just a retooled hoax from yesteryear.

    I make a point of debunking this carp every time I see it. Maybe if people get publicly shamed for spreading proven lies that any simple search will confirm, they'll either start doing the research themselves, stop spreading this crap, or defriend me, at which point I won't have to see it out of them again.

      Koobface is real malware, but I don't know what the deal is with "Barack Obama Clinton Scandal". Is that a direct quote?

          I quoted EXACTLY what the person posted. While koobface is a real virus, the way it is spread has nothing at all to do with how the person mentioned.

            Oh I see. I thought the post was saying some nonsense about how Koobface is a Presidential scandal, not that it was warning not to open a link called that. Thanks.
