That's just ridiculous to get upset over such simple gestures. If someone shows that level of kindness toward me, I graciously accept it, thank the person, and move on with life. I've never had such a horrid reaction to my gestures of politeness, luckily. I'm sure I'd probably tell them to go to hell or something similar if they did react that rudely. I can be rude to those who are rude to me first. Beyond that, I just go with the flow and follow what seems most appropriate at the moment.

As for the argument about attacks, everyone has a right to defend themselves if they can't get away from the attacker. I'm not one for hitting others or fighting in general. I prefer to live and let live. Leave me alone if you don't want to play nicely, and I'll leave you alone. Bother me, and I'll respond in kind and then part ways as quickly as possible. The same also goes for those I care about or someone who seems to be in distress and unable to fend for themselves.

Wish I had done this, but was too to react to be honest. Although there was much more of it when I was younger, for quite awhile all I got was confused or "Are you nuts?" glares.
