Old Atari games were the worst for having "luck" stacked on their side.

I honestly don't know why anyone else in my family played Backgammon on the 2600. I'm the only one in the house that could win against it.

I have an unnatural hatred for the computer players in Mario Party 8. They always cheat, those bastards!

The save situation for New Super Mario DS sounds strange to me. I wonder why it's not more like the Wii version, where you can Quick Save anywhere, but that save is used once you come back to it (so you can't continue going back to a mushroom house trying to get better stuff if you only have the Quick Save point instead of a solid save, if that makes sense). Once you beat the game, though, you can then solid save wherever you like on the main map (you can't save within a level).

I've honestly never been too bothered about sparse save points in the games that have them. They usually seem to fit. In Dragon Age, you can save anywhere outside of combat, which makes sense since it's a RPG. In God of War, there are only certain places where you can save, which makes sense to me for a hack-n-slash. But maybe that's just me *shrug* Plus, I haven't played a huge amount of games as I'm picky about the ones I like.

Unskippable cut scenes would drive me bonkers, though. Once I've seen it once, I don't need to see it again unless I've forgotten the story line (which there's a good chance I will if it's been a while between play throughs as my memory sucks ) And you want a cut scene-packed game? I watched my husband play through Metal Gear Solid 4 and it's basically a series of movies with some game play thrown in for kicks Luckily those scenes are skippable if desired.

And on the topic of having only one save file available for a game, I have to say I love the layout for the PS3 for that reason alone. Each player can have their own sign in name, and even if a game only allows one save file, you don't have to worry about it getting written over. Not sure how the Xbox 360 compares to that as I've never used one.

Okay, now I know you're getting your games crossed. The DS version didn't have secrets to buy with coins or a secret world that you unlock with the star coins. That's the Wii version. The DS version has the two world access points that require beating at least one boss with mini mario.

For those of you who like cutscenes, play Xenosaga Episode one. You might change your tune. (the only one I know of with more excessive cutscenes is Metal Gear Solid 2)

Watching Brann spaz is always a hoot...really, the highlight of the expansion. One of these days he's going to destroy Azeroth, entirely by accident.
Yeah, on more than one occasion I've said "Brann, what the hell did you do now...". Easiest detection for a boss. If Brann is nearby and so is a control panel, there's a boss.

I guess I was wrong about the bonus world (I saw playthroughs of the Wii version and assumed there was one in DS as well), but I know I'm not wrong about the coins. I probably didn't explain it well, but what I'm talking about is how you use the special star coins to unlock other paths. Those paths typically lead to mushroom or 1up houses, but sometimes they do unlock bonus levels that are lettered instead of numbered.

XD Agreed, so much. XD Often, The Computer Is A Cheating Bastard prompts Lace Is A Pain In The Arse Bitch, such as my sliding tactic in SF2 against Sagat, which to be honest is the only way to win against him; at least, as far as I'm concerned. I do try to desist from such methods when playing against real people, as I'm aware that it's annoying.

Unless said person is one of my brothers, of course. Then it's justified. 0: )

Cheaping out is totally legit against the computer. *nods sagely*

Hear hear! As far as I'm concerned, when it's me against the computer, all bets are off, and I don't fight fair...

And anyone who says "you're only cheating yourself out of a victory when you use cheats", I tend to disagree. The computer is cheating me out of a victory on account of The Computer is a Cheating Bastard, I'm just giving it a taste of it's own medicine.

Speaking of fighting games, I remember the first Eternal Champions on Genesis. I got over the 'CPU has infinite special move energy and you don't' thing easily enough, but getting to the last boss? Combine My Rules Are Not Your RUles with SNK Boss...

                    I've got one to add...

In the latest Street Fighter release, some of the moves require such precise timing that it's literally impossible to complete the moves with a wireless controller. Drove the boyfriend nuts until he figured out what the problem was.

Tell him to try maining Vega (Claw); all of his moves seem to always, no matter which game it is, involve frantic button pressing. -.- I'm always surprised I don't develop repetetive strain injury after playing Streetfighter games. XD

Well, you have to admit that seems appropriate for that crazy Spanish narcissist.

Lol. XD Tho that doesn't help my poor strained fingers. Tho you might ask why choose that character? Well, the moves (when I've frantically clicked all the buttons) are good, and the winquotes really rub your opponant's face in it. 0: ) Oh yeah, and the slide thing, to counter The Computer Is A Cheating Bastard.

I feel like the computer cheats at the RTS games. Don't even know if it does, or can, or if its considered cheating, but I imagine that the computer can individually click on every unit simultaneously. Like he can order 20 builders to build 20 different things at the same time. That's just....not fair.

Check the article that's been linked several times already. There's a whole section there for RTS games and most, if not all are true to varying degrees.

In the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games, there are various points when you can walk into a room and it's a "monster house," where 20 billion enemy Pokemon drop in to attack you.

And I SWEAR they get extra turns in which to attack and kill you. It's like "Hey! Didn't you go already? I swear it's my turn to attack." Hmph.

In Mario Kart 64 for the DS, I swear the computer makes everyone have a faster engine than you lol. At least in vs.
