  • Katy Perry's "Firework"

Despite the insipid lyrics, I do think that a firework is a great analogy for fame, just not in the way that Katy sings it. A pop star rockets up the charts, explodes onto the scene for a few moments while people go "ooh" and "ah," and then fades away. What is left after the process is unrecognizable when compared to what began.
"The future is always born in pain... If we are wise what is born of that pain matures into the promise of a better world." --G'Kar, "Babylon 5"

So...why did you put it in "Things I Hate"?

Because Ghel doesn't like Katy Perry's take on the metaphor, I guess?

I'm not familiar with the song or the lyrics.

I just dislike Katy Perry in general. She tries to do basically the same thing that Lady Gaga does, but Gaga does it so much better. And the whole "I used to be a good girl Christian but now my boobs shoot whipped cream!" thing is confusing.

Better parody of her song here.

Yep, I have a very immature humour.

As to Katy Perry's original, I guess it's supposed to be an inspirational song, at least that's what people tell me. I'm too busy being distracted by the fact that fireworks are coming out of Katy's boobs in the video clip.

She really loves her boobs doesn't she.
