  • My Toothbrush

I've got a little bit of a germ phobia. It's nothing major, it's not like I walk around with sanitary wipes and take showers in bleach or anything. I just have a few minor issues with things that are probably not as dirty as I imagine them to be, and one is the shower.

I love the shower, mind you, but I don't like finding my toothbrush on the floor of the tub, which it always is for some reason. I buy new ones, it winds up in the tub. Got only knows what its being used for, other than I know my wife occasionally uses mine, which I have no problem with, but when I see it on the floor of the tub....that's where all the stinkwater goes! People scrub their ass out, guess where that water and ass residue goes! On the floor on the tub as it makes its way down the drain!

    Ugh...leave my TB alone!

What on earth? The only way my toothbrush would end up in the tub is if my kid threw it in there, and I keep it in the medicine cabinet where he can't reach it. How the heck is yours ending up in the bathtub??

I agree that it's icky, and also I must be a bigger germaphobe than you because if anyone, including my husband, used my toothbrush I would flip out.

I don't suppose you've asked around? Toothbrushes are not Toy Story characters.

You could get one of those travel covers for the head of your brush so that no matter where it ends up, it's not touching anything.

Otherwise, my toothbrush lives on the shower windowsill as I brush my teeth during showers and it's easier to reach into the shower to grab it when I'm not showering than to reach out of the shower to grab it when I am. It has never ended up in the tub itself, however.

i'm rather messy and am not very germ-worried but... even I say "WTF?" to that one. The ONLY thing I feel someone should ever do to someone else's tooth brush is ...

          - move the entire holder while cleaning the bathroom (and move it to another flat surface)
          - dip all of the toothbrushes into mouthwash or whatever other sanitization procedure you have for periodic cleaning
          - replace it when it's expired

putting someone's toothbrush in a shower where you shed dirt from your body?
          that's fucking disgusting.

hell i don't even like the idea of sharing a toothbrush
and one of the things i love about my bf's apartment is that the toilet is slightly separate from the wash sink.

I keep mine in the cubby so the poop spores in the air can't find it and take over.

Yeah I ask around...it just winds up in there a lot. I could say it's any one of the other 3 people who live here, but honestly I dunno anymore. I just routinely clean it with bleach before I brush.

Oh lordy I hope you're rinsing it well afterward......but yeah I don't understand it ending up in the tub..I keep mine in a cup on the counter around the sink, it's no where near the tub. And no poop spores don't take over either

besides your wife who else is there?

just thinking if you have housemates you might want to consider keeping the brush in your own room. sometimes people DO pull shit like that -tossing the brush in the shower - just to be asswipes or... it's possible they're using it as a cleaning brush just to be... well asswipes again

                      He's got kids.

A toothbrush in the bathtub has "children" written all over it.

God only knows what they're doing with it. I'd keep your toothbrush in a locked drawer if I were you.

Sometimes it's kids, sometimes it's wife. She brushes her teeth in the shower. Just how she does it. Usually she only puts it on one of the little shelves in the shower though, but then it always winds up on the floor later. I've asked everyone to leave my toothbrush alone but they never do.

Ew, brush your teeth in the shower? That water is warm, and it would be an artic blast of cold water all over your body to make it cold just to brush!

I only brush at the sink. Sure, I wander away and watch TV for 2 minutes or check for updates on here or CS, but I'd never rinse with warm water. Yuck.

Not to mention, no matter how thorough you brush or how much you intend not to, toothpaste always has a tendency of leaking a tad into the sink, at least I've found a little droplet here or there always finds its way into the sink. I would freak if that sticky shit were in my tub!

I cannot figure why rinsing with warm water would be considered yuck. *shrug*

Most of the literature I've found (didn't look too long, however) suggested either warm or neutral water temperature. One article went so far as to say that both cold and hot were detrimental and warm or cool would be preferential. Warm was suggested for those using anything other than a soft bristled brush.

As for toothpaste globs, I have never found any hanging about the tub after a shower. The sink seems to be the magnet for this, and I always have to rinse them away (hot water works for this, cold water really doesn't) after brushing there.

I have no issues with sharing a brush with my partner, except that we have different expectations as regards what happens with our toothbrushes, so it's better for everybody involved if we just use our own.
