    Wow.

My insurance and gas costs about $180 a month, and that doesn't include the car payments. The total cost of my car is about $500 a month.

Worth every penny, but still expensive.

I totally forgot the car payments. Oops. >_<

I also forgot that our insurance went up $20 when we added comp & collision. With working so close to home and all regular errands being within a mile, it takes about 2 months to run through a full tank of gas.

So, with everything included it ends up being just over $400/month; the payments won't go forever, but the car will last for years.

Also, don't forget the value of your time in that equation. Based on what I make at my job, the extra time taking the bus takes is worth about $200/month.

But the beauty of taking the time to ride the bus is I can catch up on reading... I don't have time to read books at any other part of the day. Or I can listen to music and zone out, and get mentally prepared. There's nothing like it.

Not to mention the friends I make from riding the bus...I've got friends I've been in touch with or YEARS ...met them at a bus stop.

The train ride to downtown was like that. Very mellow ride. I can't imagine why anyone would prefer to drive in.

My current route, however, involves walking for 10 minutes, riding a bus for 10 minutes, waiting at a transfer for 10-15 minutes, riding another bus for 10 minutes, then walking for another 15-20. Both of the walking segments and the move to the right corner for the transfer involve crossing streets and walking in areas without sidewalks, so no possibility of reading safely.

Actually I ride a bus then a train....then reverse going home. I can't read on the bus it makes me motion sick but the train is fine. Smoother ride.

My car payment is $230 and my insurance is $97, except it went down $3 this month, so maybe it'll keep going down....it's getting pretty close to 3 years since my stupid accident. Having a newer car with full coverage is damn expensive, but I even had full insurance on my Neon because liability will really hurt you if you fuck your car up in an accident.

Could I please ask males that ride the bus with me, not to sit in a seat and spread their legs W I D E so I have to smoosh into the next person.

I realise you think your huge package needs lots of room to be displayed properly, but I can assure you that no girl has ever thought "oh my my, he is displaying wonderfully, I must sleep with him!". I paid for equal leg room bub, tuck it.

I'm not shy. If someone is sitting with their legs out too far, I'll give them a chance to stop it with a single "excuse me" and if that doesn't work, I'll just shove them over out of my own space.

I also have no problem squeezing my bulk past people who won't sit on the inside of a 2-seat row; if they get up, better for both of us, but if they refuse to make it easy for me to pass, they can put up with me sliding my butt past their face. Their choice.
