    Tasty, tasty murder

I don't somke and when I was five, I'm hazy on parts of it but my brother is older and remembered more, we had to stay round a neighbours when my mum went to her dad's funeral and our dad was away in the army. Turns out she stuck a lit cig in our mouths and made us smoke it, I never fancied taking up the habbit although I have had the odd cig here and there when rat arsed.
My brother on the other hand smokes and some times does weed, he used to wear the same fleese each time and my mum's tom cat used to love curling up on his lap inhaling any lingering aroma's.

His dog also wolfed down a hash brownie his mate had left behind by accident, he videoed the dog, he looked just as gormless as normal to me, but apparantly he was well monged.

She doesn't smoke at all. Not to mention she's gorgeous and funny and awesome, too - so I joke with her (but it's true) as to what she sees in him. Other than him being extremely good looking physically still, I really don't understand. I think she could do better.

In his defense, he is one of the only potheads I've ever known who is the true definition of a workaholic.

See, back in my teens and 20s I was into the drug thing too, but I grew up and wanted a better life for my kids. Although we never did anything in front of them, they were getting older and wiser and I'd felt guilty for a long time about it.

So I decided I'd had enough of the lifestyle. He didn't agree. That wasn't the only reason it ended, but it was the biggest part.

Or you can be like my bf who smokes cigarettes when he goes back home and goes on Charlie Sheen-like drinking benders, or even just out and about for a few drinks, but he doesn't habitually smoke like after a meal or when he gets up or even really at home at all.

He loudly goes around proclaiming that he doesn't smoke and acts like a prick if I dare light up around him, in fact he has told me to leave if I was going to smoke (!!!), but he's gone back home to party and came back kicking and whining that he smoked while he drank and it's hurt his throat. "But I'm not a smoker!"

Ah yeah, and he's "allowed" to smoke because he can "control" it, but I really need to quit because I still habitually smoke, and I can't "control" it, so I need to stop.

The alcoholic telling the smoker that they need to stop. Isn't he so funny?

This reminds me of the lazy slug I used to have working with me in the backroom. He was a pothead, and everybody knew it, but to him he wasn't a pothead because he only did pot "that one time."

Oh, and this other time you were high as a kite? "That doesn't count because I didn't buy it!"

I don't miss him one bit.

"I'm not a pot head! I don't smoke all the time!"

"And my going to the bar 4+ days a week, alone, doesn't make me an alcoholic. You smoke weed almost every day. Stop denying it."

Wow. So all those years I spent in a haze...they don't count because I didn't pay for most of it?

                That's awesome.

Interesting brand of 'special' right there, Irv. It's a wonder he was able to feed and clothe himself, let alone manage to toke up without putting an eye out.

So then, I only really smoked pot once or twice. I feel a lot better, now.

And I don't drink, then, ever.

Seeing as caffeine is a poison to stop insect from eating the pods it doesn't come as a suprise...

Well - the general consensus is anything that has a symptomatic effect on the human body. Based on this theraputic oxygen is classed as a drug which is why you have to be trained in its use.

Caffeine is actually pretty lethal in small quantities (I think even a gram can induce heart palpitations similar to crack), but coffee and tea have such miniscule amounts that you'd die from the water first. Energy drinks on the other hand contain relatively high levels and even having a few in a row can induce a heart attack in a healthy person. A pseudo supervisor (a rep from a company I was contracted to work with) would slam 2-3 of those back when we went to a site. I still can't figure out how he's still alive.

My variety of health/weight problems combined with academically-induced high stress means that I can only have very small amounts of tea, soda, etc. Coffee is straight out. It makes me have heart palpitations.

It's a lot easier than most people realize, actually.

In his case, the caffeine was more the final straw than the only thing that killed him. But he was ingesting straight powdered caffeine additive, too.

Most people don't know that a single cup of coffee every morning is enough caffeine to form a physical dependency. It takes an average of 2 daily sodas. Tea requires much more and varies depending on the type.

I know I definitely used to have a physical dependency to caffeine. On average, I was drinking two 20-ounce bottles of soda a day. When I started trying to take better care of myself by eating better and drinking more water and less soda, it was really difficult to cut out the caffeine. I think I had a nasty headache for about a week straight that no pain-killers would even touch. That's the same reason that my mom simply cannot give up coffee, she can't handle the headaches. I used to smoke a lot of pot, and I have never felt any sort of physical dependence to it. When I quit smoking it, I had no ill effects like I did when I cut out caffeine.

I would say more people than not have a caffeine "addiction", but its not really a problem, is it? For 99.9% of people, this is an extremely mild dependency, and using caffeine has no negative effect on their life.
