My job actually gives former employees letters of recommendation when they let people go.

Well, except for the thieves. They usually just get to leave without getting arrested, if they're lucky.

Well, after all, if they recommended even thieves, what good would their recommendations be anyway?

It was actually ten years ago, but I'm still sore over it.

It was a teacher's assistant position in the daycare of a rehabilitation center. my job experiences were few and far between then, so as you can imagine I was desperate for references.

My best friend's mother was also one of my teachers in Upward Bound. So, not an employee reference, but again, at that time a teacher reference was as legitimate as I could hope for.

I knew she couldn't call out from her house phone, but she could still recieve messages (I don't quite get how that worked, but I took her word for it) and she agreed to be a reference. That's the important thing. I didn't just lump it on her without warning, I asked her weeks in advance if I could place her as a reference.

Because this was a daycare position, the lead teacher was adament about checking every reference I gave. And since she (my reference) never called back, I missed out on the job.

And this was back when just about anyone could work in a daycare regardless of educational background. Now you need forty-thousand dollars worth of education. Funny how if you crank the kid out yourself, you don't need a degree but to take care of someone else's...

Still, like I said. Bitter to the end over that one as it was a job I despertely wanted as I liked working with kids.
