Last night on the news, of course the big story was the upcoming blizzard further south of here, and they touched on the little storm we got up here, then there was a lovely ditty for the local street department and how "hard" their job is. The guy they interviewed said that it's "extremely difficult" to keep up with all the snow we've been getting every winter, and motorists making it harder by there being far too many of them on the roads.
I can understand that there are winters where we break records of snow fall totals. I can understand that it's common sense to stay in when the roads aren't that great. But, that guy needs to fucking shove it if he thinks everyone is going to stay home and call in to work when we get 4-6 inches of snow in NORTHWEST WISCONSIN.
Is this fuckhead that dense or in mambypamby land with farting unicorns that he really thinks anyone can just not go to work because of a few inches of snow? That an ADVISORY (versus a blizzard warning) is going to make people call in? If everyone called in to work or stayed home when there was only a few inches of snow, nowhere would be open and no one would be able to do business or do their job if there was no boss or anyone to answer to. Considering that people are still being layed off and let go for the most nonsense reasons beyond their control, do you really think it best for people struggling to make ends meet to call in to work when we're getting snow nearly every day of the week? We can't just not go to work because the roads aren't perfect and dry.
Usually, I hate the phrase "Be happy you have a job!", but this guy really needs to be told that phrase. Especially with all the overtime pay those people get. Any job with too many hours sucks, but it's effing job security.
Of course people should put aside casual plans or piddly driving for a better time, but people HAVE to go to work. A few inches of snow should not be the reason you can't go to work in Wisconsin, especially when you have holier than thou fucktard city workers who are basically saying they'd do their job better if people weren't on the road. Yes, because I'm (and everyone else is as well) SO ecstatic to be driving in this weather, I was just dying to get out and see how you were doing!
Budget cuts are the biggest reason that my city does such a half assed job compared to neighboring cities. As soon as I cross city lines, I see a difference on a snowy day/night. But I was absolutely livid last night when the bulk of the snow was done, and major roads were still only halfway done, some barely even that, in the city that is usually better about snow removal.
