  • April Fool's

So, I hate April Fool's Day.

I know its late to complain, but really, I can't stand it.

See, I'm a little Aspergerstastic, so I don't react well to people fucking with me like that at the best of times. And if that's been happening all day, I'll have a panic attack by the end of it.

Of course, some people get more into April Fool's than others. I'm fine with silly/ridiculous things (for example, Comics Alliance reporting that the next DC crossover was going to be a teamup of the most evil hands in the universe).

I have a problem, I guess, with pranks from people close to me... Or maybe its more I have a problem with a prank where somebody tries to maintain the ruse. I'm fine with short things, but if someone is working to convince me of something either upsetting or clearly not true, it'll cause me a great deal of anxiety...

    I dunno, I hate April Fool's day.

I see where you're coming from. I think it's fun to fool someone into believing something unlikely, but the humor can only last so long before it becomes grating and unfunny. Especially when some jackass insists on keeping up with the joke long after they have been called out on it. To those making jokes, when someone asks "Is this a joke?" tell the fucking truth. Don't keep on insisting that you're not joking when you really are because eventually you'll have to come clean. Might as well come clean when the joke is actually funny otherwise, it's just going to piss people off who want a straight answer.

My April Fool ideals: the joke should be something in keeping with fun all around, NOT an excuse to be mean to people; if the joke is otherwise believable, there should be *something* that an attentive person would catch to tip them off (this may apply more to written material than to in-person); and it should be something very unlikely to cause harm if it's taken seriously. (Still no good at examples; but, for instance, if you call someone up and convince them their house is on fire, they're likely to rush home in a distracted state, perhaps causing an accident, risking their job, etc.)

And if the joke is targeted at a specific person, it had better not be someone you know does not enjoy such things. But that's back to "not an excuse to be mean."

        It depends on the prank.

Some are funny, and some are just using the day as an excuse to be cruel.

Last year, the people at my work took one of the wheels off of one person's car and left it under her desk. I don't know which was funnier, the prank or the fact that she didn't think it was funny.

Of course, they also put it back on before she had to leave, too.

        ^-.-^

I only ever do funny and harmless things for April Fools; for example, this year I linked a few people to Mudkipsroll. And one year, the forum I admin played a huge joke on everyone; we pretended that all the staff had been hacked by Mudkips.

I'd never play a joke on someone tho that would upset them or hurt them physically; I don't see how humiliating others is ever funny.

Now that's tampering with personal property. EXPENSIVE personal property. I'd have been pissed off and torn into everyone involved, I don't care if they put it back.

I don't mind the little jokes, like huge announcements with a bit of an outlandish downside, since no one EVER believes huge announcements on April 1st.

And who can hate Mudkips? XD

I'd never link someone to a porn site or extreme violent video tho; Mudkips and rickrolling is as far as I go.

On the wheel thing: that's one where it depends on who you pull it on. That the victim didn't find it funny means you should have chosen someone else.

Oh, she thinks it's funny now. She was the perfect choice for that prank.

I'm not for the removing of someones wheel, there is a lot that can go wrong, I have seen many people fail to use a proper jack point changing a tire, then there is not knowing the star pattern for putting the lug nuts back on and warping something, along with not using proper torque to reapply the lug nuts. And I have a general rule, you don't fuck with someones car, maybe, leave something non-damaging like when my friend stopped to bug me at work and i had to take out the trash and i tossed a bag full of cardboard into his hatchback.

Or I considered stealing my friends stereo fuse if the car was unlocked. As I'm the guy he gonna call to fix it after his roommate and I know he won't run to a place that going to charge him.

I'm glad my day went quick and I didn't have any annoying customers trying to play jokes because people are not creative as they think.

The guy who removed the wheel is the same guy she'd run to when she got a flat - there was no question about trusting him with her car. It wasn't some spur of the moment idea. The group of people she spends her breaks and lunch with had planned it for at least a week ahead of time.

That's the only physical prank I can remember happening around here. Otherwise, it's all fake news and shaggy dog tales.

I hate April Fools day too and really really really hate being fucked with or pranked. I just don't care for it and don't do it to other people.

Luckily nothing happened at work so I'm grateful.

In my fraternity we used to have prank wars, I had no desire to be involved and made it known, I was not going to do any pranks leave me out of it, I didn't have a roommate so people would prank me figuring only one person would come after them, and they would claim that retaliation was wrong because their roommate who had nothing to do with it would be affected.

OF course, I don't respond well to a shopvac of glitter being blown into my room, when I just got my suit back from the dry cleaners and have an important interview, lucky my closet was closed. and flour and water ended up under my door soaking my clean clothes, I just brought back from home and had setting in a bag on my floor because I got back to campus and had to go to class.

Shit ended, once began the arms race. Everyone decided that it was best to stop and I almost got written up by the university for the stench of the vinegar tsunami on the main ringleader who started pranking everyone because well it made the whole floor stink. I don't get mad, I get more than even, and since people were around watching my room get screwed with while I was gone everyone needed to pay and want to protect my room or else it was gonna get worse.

I was a little sad I didnt' get to unleash global thermal nuclear war, nothing like 4 month old expired milk and eggs.... the best pranks take time to prepare.
