  • And here is my new hate for clothing trends:

    http://www.supre.com.au/LOWERED-BACK...094&country=AU

Basically it's meant to have "all the fun of a miniskirt and a maxiskirt" in one!

The way that most people wear them is to basically have the short half at the front and the long half at the back. My nickname for them is butt capes, but a friend of mine went one better and calls them "vagina valances"

And I thought the idea of an asymmetrical hemline was that it started around the knee or just slightly above?

ETA: A few new pet hates as far as fashion goes since we're warming up down here:

-One-piece swimsuits that have padded cups in them. Seriously, is it possible for me to find a one-piece swimsuit that I can wear to the beach that DOESN'T have padded cups in it? I have 2 at the moment-one has cups in it, one doesn't, the one that doesn't I use for a workout. MOst tankini tops these days seem to be the same. (I don't wear tankinis for a whole 'nother reason)

-Bodysuits. I'm not talking about the unitards, I"m referring to what is basically a one-piece made out of cotton or poly-cotton etc. and has crotch snaps or ties. Seriously, you wear those as a baby. NOT as a full-grown adult.

-mini-boardies. This is more of a size pet hate than anything else, but I HATE HATE HATE how I can't find 3/4 length boardshorts, let alone any in my size. They're all short-shorts or borderline hotpants.

-Dress hemlines which only JUST cover the butt and not much else: at my sister's year 12 graduation, one of the girls in her year pretty much wore that to receive her award. YOu probably couldn't even call it a dress to be honest!

Actually, I don't really mind that one. It's very similar to the female mage outfits in Guild Wars, and my toon has been wearing one for years.

      Also, easy access...

      • Aw, one of my fav threads revived! I loves you!

I'm so sick of the boots over the pants that I want to puke. It's alright if you're thin or tall and you're wearing the appropriate pants/boots, but to the girls at the gym who tuck their baggy, oversized sweatpants into their Uggs......YOU LOOK STUPID!

I don't know how I forgot it before, but jumpers. Those things are atrocious on pretty much anyone over 100 lbs.

I'm absolutely with you on this one.

You'd think that, at a DD cup, you wouldn't want or need more padding. >_<

i got sick of that too. so i started just making a small slice on the inside of the suit near a seam, and tugging out the padding. the entire purpose is to keep your nipples from being obvious. but screw it, its uncomfortable.

also underwire. hate it, and rip it out of every bra i own. i aint getting poked by wires all day.

i admit to being a fan of bright neon colours. i love some punk/goth fashions where its appropriate (post apoc & cyberpunk, etc) and try to toss it in with accessories. but i am also crazy pale so it works for me.

These bother me, too. I haven't really looked for a new swimsuit in years, because I really don't go swimming that often. But my bikini that I currently have has padded cups. Not a lot of padding, but still. And it's so annoying because it gets all bunched up when I swim and makes my boobs look all deformed and weird >.< And when I throw the suit in the washing machine (yes, I know, you're supposed to hand wash them, but whatever...I'm lazy), the padding ends up falling out. There are tiny little openings in each cup where the padding can get pulled out if you roll it up enough. And sure enough, every time, I find the padding at the bottom of the washer. Getting that back in and having it look normal is a bitch!

Haha, I used to wear bodysuits like that back in the mid-90s They were in fashion at the time, though, at least where I lived. Girls would wear them with jeans or shorts. Why I thought that was a good idea, I have no clue. It made taking a pee that much more involved, and really was a hindrance when you had to go badly Plus, looking back, it was kinda skeevy as I was 13 and those bodysuits were rather form-fitting. They really don't need to come back into style...really -.-

              • Neon/brightly colored sneakers just make me shake my head. Jeggings...ew. One trend I see around here that's been around for a long, long time is wearing a hoodie with shorts...usually, if it's a girl, very short shorts. What's the point? The top half of your body is the only part that gets cold? I don't get it. Also, I can't stand Crocs...I don't get that trend, either!

                  Try an E cup.

I'll probably try that trick with removing the padding. There are also wirefree bras out there in larger cup sizes.

AS for the maxi/minis, while they do have a fantasy-esque quality about them, it's also the fact that a great number of them are see-through.

                  • I saw a real honest to god hipster the other night on my way to work. It was somewhat amazing. I had never truly seen one in the wild. I've also never seen someone go through so much work specifically to look like a total douchebag. Normally, guys accidently end up looking like douchebags. But hipsters appear to carefully craft the image from the ground up.

He of course had jeans that were utterly painted on and showing off his amazing chicken legs. A look I simply cannot comprehend. Not only in its douchiness, but how does any male wear that look? Male genitalia requires space. Though I guess that answers my question right there.

For me, anything less than a straight leg relaxed fit is uncomfortable. I'd rather not have my ballsack bisected by a seam all day, thanks.

                    • From what I can gather, male hipsters also sag, to combine two completely asinine fashions in one douchetacular effect. So, sagging skinnies provide some sort of space.

One of these days I might manage to dredge up the courage to ask one of the hipster twits that work at the same place I do what they're on that makes them think that style looks even remotely good. I asked one about sagging, and his answer was some idiocy about fashion and indicative of his utter inability to think for himself. He's only 19; perhaps he'll grow a personality of his own eventually.

                      • I will never understand the desire to sag one's pants; from my own experience, it is not comfortable and only causes problems for one's nether regions. Granted, I've also drawn women wearing low-riding jeans before so I am absolutely a hypocrite in that regard (then again, what kind of affect does it have on a non-human who's bare flesh is stronger than steel?). With some effort and will, however, I'm starting to draw more low-key fashions.

Although to be honest, I am rather curious as to who amongst the women I draw would look good in a short skirt and long jacket?

Forgive my atrocious artwork, but is this what you mean? Despite being terribly proportioned, she's supposed to be in the 5'4" range; except for fashion trends in the 17th/18th-Centuries, I assumed that people tucked pants into their boots to keep said pants from getting wet when traversing mud, water, and snow (as one might expect a ranger to do).

                        • i'm a big boot-tucker. not just for snow and whatnot, even for hiking in the bush. don't need any buggies climbin up my pants, and its less likely to get me tangled up in brambles if my pantlegs are contained.

I wear mine because they belonged to my dad and it's a way to still be close to him.

Totally agree with the skirt over jeans thing. Honestly you might as well wear a shapeless robe.

                            • Harem pants. They look ridiculous. I have no idea why anyone would want to wear such an unflattering garment, which basically makes you look like you've shat your pants. They're like a lady version of those baggy trousers the wiggers round my way wear.

Also, busy floral dresses. It just looks as tho you've stolen your granny's curtains to wear as a dress. X_x

They've been down here as well. I actually used to wear those types of pants. Back at SCHOOL, when I was around 8 or 9, as my school pants for winter.
Since then, people have caught on and worked out "Oh hey, maybe elastic around the ankle isn't a good look" and trackpants have since become normal.

Funnily enough, the only store I know that really sells the harem pants nowadays? The same store I put up when I bumped this post: Supre.

ETA: Another one back from my days in high school. My very awesome Year 9 English teacher also taught dance for ALL the year levels. At one point I was going along to get photos of all the performances for the school newsletter. One of the Year 11 assessment pieces was based off of "A Chorus Line"-the concept of an audition. So everyone was dressed in this workout gear.

Then my teacher sprung this gem on me: Apparaently one of the students bought and wore a G-String Leotard! And it wasn't even like a block colour, it was this busy floral patterned hideous thing (from the way she described it). She had to put the nix on it to avoid scaring the heck out of the moderators!
