Just a pet peeve. I was just on the weight-loss forum I visit. Someone was asking about the Wii Fit, and if it was worth the investment. There were only two replies when I got there.

First reply was from someone who didn't own it, but had tried it at a friend's place. Okay, that's helpful.

The second comment was "Don't have it, can't help you." Followed by a lengthy signature I had to scroll past.

If you have nothing helpful to contribute, why are you even bothering?!?!

OH god yes that is like people who in the comments section of a regularly updated webcomic will First it.

This is where they rush to peg the first comment as theirs by posting, "FIRST!!!" and then proceeding to read the update, yes they establish a "comment" before they have even read the thing. A lot of the time in fact most of the time that is the last they will say. They don't even have an actual comment just wanted to be the first to do so.

On a slightly unrelated note love the Wii Fit have lost 12 lbs.

Yeah that's annoying. The only reason I can think of to make such pointless replies are post counts (which is pretty stupid imo).

But what makes it all the more annoying are the goddamn signitures with pictures that take up almost the whole screen. I don't mind signitures in general, but I've seen some that have actually caused lag. Is it really necessary?

On this site, you collect points for forum posts, tracking you food and exercise, reading health news articles, etc. Points earn you virtual trophies, which look pretty on your profile. There are at least a few threads dedicated just to letting you post to earn your max points for forum posts for the day. The idea is to motivate you to connect with the virtual community for support, but not everyone gets it.

Participation: They're doing it wrong.

Any site that rewards post count padding needs to have very strictly enforced rules about how and where such posts can be made and that any posts lacking content in any other place have the potential to lead to sanctions.
