A few years ago now a girl was raped in public and most people just calmly watched, some disgusted not voicing it some cheering. None calling for help or even offering it.
I bring this up only because today I did something getting on the bus that had most of the other passengers getting ready to form a lynch mob and openly muttering about what a monster I was. I wish this were exaggeration.
I accidentally stepped on the paw of a dog. A black dog that was mostly under the seat of a crowded bus to whom I apologized along with said owner all while trying to quickly take my seat. Then I spent the next 10 minutes to my destination being serenaded with openly hostile conversations of how horrible I was.
I was shocked. One it was clearly an accident and two I did apologize short of building a time machine I can't do anything and the dog other than the minor pain of having your foot/paw stepped on was unhurt.
Anyone else notice this imbalance in compassion?
