  • Trend Hand Me Downs

I hate not learning about something or having the money to get into something until everyone else is done with it.

You watch Dr. Who with David Tennant after there is a new Doctor and there is no one to talk to about how awesome he was.

You play Portal and people just roll their eyes at your the Cake is a Lie joke.

It would just be nice to get in on a trend while it's still a trend.

I'm slowly making my way through Doctor Who and am still in the Tennant phase. So I'll happily gush about him with you! And I still think the "cake is a lie" joke is funny, even if my friends glare at me now.

I still think the Eccleston era should have been a reboot of the franchise and not a continuation as looking back on old episodes, they don't age well as scifi, just watch Nash from radio dead air (also on TGWTG) when he does a classic, his last one had bertie bassett (the confectionary mascot) as a villain for crying out loud.
Daleks and Cyber men I'm glad to see return, but if they ever go back to some of the old monsters, I think blood will have to be spilt.
OK the rebooted the Silurian's but just explained away the bad foam suited fish men as an evolutionary branch.

If they cut themselves free of the back story and had him discover the Daleks for the first time, we the audience would know them (just as we knew what a cylon was in BSG) but we get to rewatch the initial horror of their society and plans first hand again (without all the bad continuity)

Tennant is the best so far from the relaunch, mostly due to his length in the role, but Smith has managed to form a character that after a few episodes didnt feel like it was written for Tennant or to be played in a Tennanty way.
Eccleston's run was too short and with Tennant leaving and the ammount of books that could have any doctor not the current+rose, they could have just asked him to reprise the role for a season and fill in the time he had with rose or by himself before the rose episode. He was more somber, but not unfunny or anything, but both Tennant and Smith are both all smiles, it is almost as if they wanted to keep writing for Tennant but without Tennant.

If I hated Smith (like most of the world hated Colin Baker) then atleast I have Karen Gillian to keep me entertained.

If you havn't got to the Smith era then one word
      "Spoilers"
Cos yes River Song returns for a few episodes of season 1 and most of part one of season 2 (no idea which season they really are so its Smith season 1&2)

I'll gush about Tennant. He's awesome.

I disagree that Doctor Who should be rebooted. Looking at Nash, he's very clear that there are some terrible episodes, but he also mentions that there are REALLY GREAT episodes of the original series.

I don't think a total reboot is necessary. The original series wasn't that tonally consistent, so if they wanted to change the tone, no problem. What they did still gave us a new start and an introduction to the character. It has the continuity, but it doesn't rely on it to tell the story. The continuity that matters is almost all introduced in the new series. I could be wrong on this, but I don't think that I am. please correct me if I am.

The original series had its fair share of stinkers, but again, as Nash pointed out in his Love and Monsters review, the main reason the new series hasn't had that many is it only has a fraction of the number of episodes in the original series.

I had that happen with me when I discovered Rick Rolling. By the time I started Rick Rolling people, the fad was dead, and all it got me was an F U for trying to restart a meme.

Rick Rolling will never die, it just isn't used as much, one forum I frequent has an April Fools link (hence why it will never die so long as April Fools exsists*) and we can change our screen names, so when there was a new product being launced, someone renamed themselves to the head honcho, but spelt the last name slightly wrong and posted a link to a video showing cool stuff, if he had kept his old name no one would click on the lnik, but cos people read it as from someone else they fell for it.
