Which ironically came from a post I remember from the old CS boards!
The story in particular involved a female hotel clerk who was helping a boy carry luggage in. Apparently the boy's jerkass father had made him bring the stuff in, but it was too much for him. So his father see's his son getting help and in a wonderful display of parenting, he makes fun of his son for "needing help from a girl". I think at one point, the clerk defends the kid only to be met with his dad telling her he "has to prepare him for life", continuing with his "the world is tough and relentless and I'm only toughing him up".
First of all, the father was a sexist asshole for thinking needing help from a girl is such a horrible thing. Second of all, he's being a bully to his son. In fact, I think I've heard of some bullies using similar justifications that he used so he's really no better. And thirdly, as I clearly remember from the comments, if all the kid hears about is how tough the world is, what desire is he going to have to live in it? All he's getting from his dad is negativity all under the guise of "tough love", but it's obvious he's just being an asshole.
So that right there is the perfect example of an emotionally abusive asshole. I’m fortunate I haven’t had to meet too many people like this, but whenever I hear about it, I get sick.
BTW, does anyone else remember that particular story or is it just me? (It was around April or May of 2006, when I first discovered the existance of a site called customers suck).
