I can't even read on a treadmill, let alone text. I'm bobbing around too fast, and can't hold anything still. I listen to my iPod.

I do sort of question how hard someone's working out if they're able to text while on a treadmill, but for all I know, an ambling pace IS a good workout for them. For example, an obese person who was previously completely sedentary doesn't need to move terribly fast to get their heart rate up. Presumably, once the slow walking gets too easy for them, they'll pick up the pace.

I have no problem whatsoever with someone going at a pace that works for them. Not going to judge on that. Just to be clear.

I specifically DO have a problem with people who would rather read or text than work out, so they make an ass of themselves by puttering along and not focusing.

I can text on a treadmill no problem. (And no, I'm not "ambling.") I like to get to that sweet spot between a jog and a run, where I'm actually breaking a sweat and my legs are burning. It's not hard to text and walk at a decent pace, you just have to have a good sense of balance. It also helps to stop every few words and make sure you aren't drifting toward the end of the treadmill.

I can text while walking fast on the tredmill. I only text during the cardio portion of my exercise, though. Or when I am resting from using the dumbells.

I usually go through an issue of Popular Classics when I'm at the gym. Of course, I'm on my way to making 1,000 calories disappear

But, the people on the phones bug me. Sorry, but I don't care about the party you're going to, the rash on your back, your grandkids, or anything else you consider "important" enough to loudly yammer on about. Shut the fuck up, in other words.

I especially hate the ones who go into the movie theater and talk. Just like people at the normal movie theaters make me homicidal. SHUT UP and work out.

It's always a freaking group of girls who all wander in to work on the three ellipticals right next to each other, and yammer on during the movie.

There are a lot of legitimate uses for a phone at the gym... I use mine to watch movies while I'm doing cardio (either the elliptical machine or the bike), I know a lot of people use them to listen to music, I've seen people tracking weight and reps... but texting... yeah, that kind of bugs me... if it's that important for you to stop every minute to send a text, then clear the machine and let someone else use it while you focus on your texts.
