  • Disgusting Posting On Facebook

Okay, this is about a disgusting, horrible topic and if you are sensitive to animals and the cruelty some people inflict on them, you might want to stop here.

I don't know if anyone else has seen this, but there's a story going around about a German shepherd with the majority of his face blown off, evidently by someone putting firecrackers in his mouth. I will admit, I have done no other research on this topic mainly because there is an intensely graphic photo of this poor, poor dog that accompanies every story and I cannot stomach seeing it. And I never would have, if it wasn't for people posting it on Facebook!

I don't know who the hell decided it was a good idea to post this incredibly vile photo to their public feed, but I've seen four people in my friends' list do it so far. And they're all people I never would have thought of posting it - no animal rights activists or people who are associated with prevention campaigns. Each time I see it surface, it's just "this is awful!" and the photo... And then I feel like puking, because the photo disturbs me that much.

I have reported this every time I've seen it as I believe it is one hundred percent inappropriate to post on someone's feed, where they have no choice or warning as to what they see. This isn't usually a problem with "hm, what to make for supper?" and "LOL I'm so drunk!" kind of stuff, but a topic like this that is obviously incredibly sensitive coupled with a photo that will obviously illicit an emotional reaction from every person seeing it... Augh, it makes me see red every time it comes up.

AGAIN, please don't google this topic unless you are prepared to see one of the most truly awful sights you might ever see. Please don't say I didn't warn you, because, even though I consider myself to have a strong constitution, this bothered me to a fundamental level. I would never, ever seek this out on my own.

One of the many things I dislike about that site is that if you "like" something or, in this case, just try to let others know about it, it automatically puts up whatever image is associated with the article. Unless I've missed something, you have to go to quite a lot more trouble, relatively speaking, to share an article to your contacts without the standard photo and text bite... and many people simply wouldn't think to, especially if they habitually pass things on in that manner.

Thanks for the warning that it's going around; I now know not to check my page until it's had time to run its course.

Usually Facebook posts like that are fake, I decided to try Snopes in hopes that this was another false claim, unfortunately in this case it's true. Apparently it happened in some city in Bosnia. It is sick and disgusting, and just to forewarn people, Snopes does have the picture.

posting pictures like that on Facebook is inappropriate, I go on there to see what's going on with my friends and to see them post pictures of their kids. I do not go on there to see faces of death style gore, there are plenty of other places on the internet to see shit like that if I were sick enough to want to. I can understand wanting to share your outrage, but at the very least post a link to the picture with a warning. This way people who cannot handle such images (which would be most) aren't force to look at it among the postings about their friends days.

I know exactly what photo you're talking about. It makes my stomach turn just thinking about it. I do agree it's inappropriate for Facebook. Surely, we can get the message out without turning everyone's stomachs in the process, yes?

I completely agree. I had to remove a long time friend from my FB a few months back because he kept posting photos of dead, bloody bodies and his political views that this is the way to handle issue XYZ and should be legal. Ex. graphic image of three or four blood covered bodies and the comment that this is how illegal immigrants should be dealt with. Sick.

I use FB to keep up with my ex-coworkers and school friends. I will post about issues that I care about but by using a link to avoid forcing my opinion on others.

I subscribed to a feed from an organization that lobbies to make animal cruelty a felony in my state. I had to hide every single one of their posts though, because they constantly post pictures of animals that have been abused/killed (with accompanying news stories). And the way it is posted, the pictures show up on my news feed so I don't have a choice to not look.

Obviously if someone subscribed to their feed they are animal lovers, so why on earth would you hit them with images like this?

Thankfully I don't have any friends that would post anything horrible like that, what the fuck is wrong with people. Really trying not to cry right now, I want to kill people who think it's funny to do this kind of shit.

There is now one going around of a different abused dog with the caption, "This poor puppy was abused. For every share...The humane Society will donate $1 for his opperation" which is complete B.S. The humane society will not donate anything based on the amount of shares this disturbing and disgusting picture receives -- it's a hoax.

I hate these pictures and frankly am just as revolted by the people who share them, as I am of the pictures themselves. I reported the new one I just found as inappropriate and a scam, I really hope FB takes it seriously and takes it down. I do not want to see stuff like this, especially when it's filled with hoaxes and garbage, on my feed.

Many atrocities have occurred in our world because people ignored things like this because they were uncomfortable. If it reach anyone who has the power to help others not suffer like this, it's not pointless.

Should we not post photos of domestic violence victims, either? Or does posting those photos and information on warning signs raise awareness and give us knowledge?

BK, I would agree with you if this information were posted in an appropriate place, but for most people, their Facebook feed is not the place for graphic political/social activism, especially when the audience generally has no choice in the content posted.

Exactly. I am perfectly happy to campaign for animal rights without seeing pictures of starved pit bulls. Especially if I am simply scrolling through my friend's statuses about their days or what they're thinking and BAM! Carcass of a cat deliberately burned to death.

If I want to see graphic proof of the horror in the world I know where to look. I don't ignore what's happening, I just need it shoved in my face all the time.

Amen. Making people LOOK at such things is not the same as informing that they happen. Images may be necessary if someone flat-out denies those things happen, but there is no good reason to push them in ways that cannot be avoided by people who don't want to look. Especially those already otherwise on your side.
