  • genre switching hollywood reboots

I'm of course referring to movies made based on old tv shows that totally change the genre. Mainly shows that were serious cop drama type shows, why is this, it's not funny, and it's a bit insulting to the people that actually enjoyed the shows previously. Plus imagine the disappointment when someone that liked the movie picks up the tv show on DVD and it's nothing even similar.

Starsky and Hutch, was a serious "cop drama" it was made into a horrible comedy.

Land of the lost was somewhat serious for a kid show, made into a comedy.

Dragnet, very serious cop show, also now a comedy.

Josie and the pussycats, went from being like scooby doo to being...just horrible.

the latest, gave me a bit of respect for Johnny Depp back as he was supposed to be the captain, and after seeing the script he refused to have anything to do with it. I don't blame him at all.

    original show: (action, drama)

Wait until they re-do The Breakfast Club or Full House or something.

Well, Scooby Doo was a total "take 2" of Josie and the Pussycats. And the original cartoon was pretty horrible.

But I have to agree that the whole thing about changing the genre of reboots can be really confusing.

          BLASPHEMY!

The remake train is one I'm sick to death of in general. These were new original ideas when they came out...come up with some of your own.

Neither The Breakfast Club nor Full House were original ideas when they came out. Actually, there are very few original ideas across the course of dramatic history. Sitcoms all follow the same basic formula that they have since Leave it to Beaver. Modern procedurals are just Dragnet with more technology. Reality TV shows and most cartoons are just melodrama.

I'm not saying that a remake of Full House is a good idea, but the idea of "Oh, there are so many remakes nowadays, it wasn't like that when I was a kid!" is false. As was said elsewhere, we remember the good stuff and either forget or sugarcoat the bad.

My moms response to the trailer: You've gotta be shitting me. My response to the trailer: They fucking killed it! We both would like to find whoever thought this was a good idea and punch them in the face.

                      So did I.

But, then, that was more an homage than a reboot or sequel.

I thought the Star Trek reboot was well done. Not that the Arnold versions were any good but I've been told the Conan reboot is going to be terrible.

Just as long as they don't fuck up Conan the Librarian.

it came out last year, and was closer to the book, so if closer to source material=terrible....and it stayed within genre.
