It was closer to the source material. That doesn't make it better, though. I prefer the Arnold movies. They didn't bore me.

To clarify, the problem with it (for me) was that while they were indeed closer to Howard's novels, there was a certain something to Howard's novels that just didn't translate to the movies.

If you can't make a GOOD adaptation, make an INTERESTING one.

When the wife and I saw the commercials we both had the same response: "What the fuck was that?!" Much repect for Depp refusing to be part of the project.

The Star Trek reboot was done extremely well, not trying to truly replace the original but expand in a new way.
The whole "Dramas remade as wacky comedies" thing pisses me off (With the exception of Dragnet - "Look out, Muppets!") and shows the desperation of the studios to make as much money as possible without paying for original ideas.

I have seen this where someone adapts a novel and the thing was the novel itself was badly written and the author didn't seem to understand you can't write a "genius" character who is a thousand times stupider than the reader.

Times like that the idea can be good and the movie took the great idea and made it watchable without having to scream, "Oh my fucking god you moron if your the genius of the book I weep"

BUT when you "remake" the same movie into 3D does that count ?????

Points to Titanic and the Star Wars movies NOW (soon to be released) in GLORIOUS 3D.

WHY "redo/reimage" Titanic in 3D?????? THAT is what I do not get.

One of my students summed it up best, "I bet when that one dude falls off the boat, hits the propeller, and spins off...it's gonna look awesome."

I saw the Arnold ones as a kid, and found the "floating rocks" to be ludicrous, not interesting, I enjoyed the fact that they actually delved into Conan's childhood in the remake, and the fact that he was dressed more like a warrior of that "timeframe" would've been, nothing but fur underwear-please.., and the fact that the current Conan was treating the female lead as his equal and not subservient("Barbarian women dress as warriors, not as whores!").

Because people will go see that crap a second time and they will make a buttload of money.

Most of those people already saw it a second, third, and 10th time the first time around, and they'll do the same thing again this time around.

I saw the trailer for 21 Jump Street as I was flipping through the channels in my hotel room last week. I was horrified. Right after it was over, SNL started back up and it made me think it was just a skit. Sadly, I saw the movie poster a few nights later in a movie theatre. My sig holds true and truer every day.

*nods* It's like how nuts I get when some warrior is carrying a pretty jeweled sword in a movie and I am thinking, 'Uhm yeah that sword is gonna get him killed'

Looting the bodies back then was okay and if you have an expensive sword you just became the person everyone wants to kill.

Too bad its not worth sitting for 3 hrs to watch in 3D. Love the movie, just not worth my time. I also can't imagine a slow movie like that with no action cept at the end in 3D.

Actually, 3D really makes 'mood' scenes feel richer. They did it with the slow parts of Avatar, Up, and Hugo, and they work really well. That said, I don't know how something like Titanic would work, but considering the overwrought fans who watched it a dozen times when it was in theaters the first round, I don't think it matters at all if it doesn't improve the movie even remotely.

The prospect of 3D boobies will get me in the theater.
