I really hate it when customers get a superiority complex and come out with this. No, dickhead, you do NOT pay my wages; that's the company I work for. Thru my taxes, I pay the wages of the local police yet I'm not going to charge in there and ask for a beer and a sandwich, now am I?

It's even worse when you have a coworker with that mentality.
Truth be told, we do have a lot of very jaded and angry people at work that just need to get over some of their grievances, but there's nothing wrong with a healthy vent about something that is truly unfair and hurtful towards our bottom line.
And then when you have a Happy Sunshine Yes-Man coworker tell you, "This company pays our wages, we should be happy we still have jobs and can do as much overtime as we want!", when we've just been given one day notice that we all HAVE to work extra hours this coming weekend or we've gotten another laughable tiny bonus or lost another perk or benefit, you just wanna punch that person. Repeatedly.

As if a job holder owes his company anything. It's a business relationship. You pay me, I work for you. You need me just as much as I need you.

I'm sorry, but this way of thinking does kind of tick me off.
Yes, you are correct that the employer pays your wages to you, but...ummm...if the customer didn't spend their money, then where the heck do you think your wgaes will come from???
Do you think your employer has a huge barrel out back with an unlimited supply of money that they will just keep dipping into to meet their payroll???
Yeah, it ticks me when customers pull that, "I pay your wages" as a bargaining chip to get something they shouldn't be entitled to, or whatever, but to say, "You don't pay my wages. My employer does," is flawed thinking.Point to Ponder:
Is it considered irony when someone on an internet forum makes a post that can be considered to look like it was written by a 3rd grade dropout, and they are poking fun of the fact that another person couldn't spell?

It's not just in stores either. Years back, I had a paper route. I was sitting somewhere, near the end of the route, attempting to fix a jammed brake on my knackered '88 Radio-Flyer. I'm not pulled over 5 minutes, and some old fool in a Buick tells me to "get my ass back to work, since I'm not being paid to sit around." My reply? "You're not one of my customers...You don't pay me shit, so bugger off"
Sure, I had to pay for those papers, and the customers had subscriptions...but unless you were on my route...you weren't a customer, and I didn't have to kiss your ass. Even if you were, I could get away with dropping troublesome customers, or those who refused to pay up.

True, the customer base as a whole pays your wages when it comes right down to it. But one single customer does not pay your wages by themselves and they do not have to act like they're five dollar purchase is singlehandedly keeping the whole economy from collapsing.
It'd be like me walking outside and picking up a cigarette butt and then proudly strutting around about how I'm saving the world.

Every dollar adds up, though.
Like I say, I hate when they use it as an excuse to act like an entitled dick, but to say they don't pay your wages is flawed, because technically, they do.Point to Ponder:

Like I said, technically I, thru my taxes, pay the wages of the police, but that doesn't give me the right to act like an arsehole. I've never had a decent customer use that line, it's always been an SC, which why I hate hearing it."Oh wow, I can't believe how stupid I used to be and you still are."

Both sides of the argument are correct, but those that bring it up are predominantly dicks.
When I go shopping the money goes into the till not the cashiers wallet, they get their wages from the profits made, unless you happen to sign the wage cheques, no your purchase of a packet of fags might not even be enough profit for 5 minutes of work regarding wages.
I jokingly said at a festival "The NHS is paying me to be here." which is and is not true, I was not there in an official capacity like ST Johns or owt like that, my company just happens to work for one of the trusts and my wages say their name not my company name and any paid anual leave (like that long weekend) are paid for by this NHS trust, so in a way I am right saying that.
people who spend money contribute to your wages, those that are just looking without being SC's do not, browsing earns the company ziltch, once you have bought something you are a paying customer, at the moment you are just a potential customer and have not contributed to the wage pool by creating profit for the shop you work at.
