Popcorn and I don't get along because I tend to forget to dress appropriately for the movies and half of it ends up down my shirt, making grease stains.

Blas, I hate that so much! I'm sure I look super classy, digging around in my bra looking for lost popcorn.

I totally did that at Sherlock Holmes 2. My brother was mortified.

Otherwise, I'd just go home, take my shirt off, and watch it fly everywhere. And then when people accuse me of having a "shopping problem", it's like yeah, having big boobs, everything spills down there and I always need new camis because they suffer the damage!

You know, if you don't try to grab so much at once, you won't tend to drop it like that.

The boyfriend drops a ton of popcorn all the time 'cause he's grabbing so much all at once. Meanwhile, I'm taking much smaller bunches and not dumping any of it down my shirt, in my lap, or on the floor.

It's between $8 and $9 here, depending on which theater you go to. The worst prices are the concessions. Matinees are always cheaper, but I can't bring myself to go to a movie during the day. You can always buy discount tickets from grocery stores/retailers or even at my work we get those as benefits, but they never are able to used at big budget movies like Harry Potter or Twilight or whatever anticipated movies. So that's a waste. I never buy advanced or discount tickets.

If we didn't shop/run errands/walk between dinner and the movie, I wouldn't get hungry and want popcorn. That smell is too tempting.

I am NOT going to touch that one even with someone elses 39 1/2 foot pole
I'm lost without a paddle and I'm headed up sh*t creek.

I never get popcorn; I prefer pick n mix, personally. XD The local cinema has a pick n mix selection that runs accrross one whole side. It also provides Ben n Jerry ice cream, which I can rarely resist getting a tub of.

I rarely go to movies for most of the reasons the OP listed...expensive, time-consuming with the ads, etc. I remember in high school going to the movies was an every-weekend thing. Now because it's so expensive, I schedule it way in advance, and only for movies that look REALLY good.

On the 24th my fiance, friend, and I will be seeing the Hunger Games. We're being so ridiculously meticulous with the planning. My friend and I chose a theater near us based on the quality of their popcorn. We're total whores for popcorn, too...I just gotta have it when I go to a movie. They must put some addictive crack-like substance in that shit.

The last time my friend went to a movie he splurged (cash and Weight watchers points, lol) on movie popcorn only for it to be stale. We're aiming to avoid this. We're also planning dinner and the time that we will get there to wait in line for good seats. Is it sad that I have to plan a frickin itinerary/strategy to go to the movies?!

Not really. I mean, movies these days usually take over 2 hours, up to 3 hours with previews and stuff.

I don't go to movies in the theater hardly at all. Between cable and netflix and a huge HDTV who needs to anymore

And I want to add thank you OP for saying you can't see 3d and you're sick of 3d everything already. I have no depth perception so 3d is completely wasted on me. Between the 3d movies, cable and tv I'm going crazy!!!

I love me some 3D, but some of the stuff they're putting in 3D only has caused me to not see quite a few movies I otherwise would have seen in the theater.

Up I can see the desire for 3D. Avatar I can totally see why they'd want 3D. Even Titanic I can see a use for 3D. But the Glee move? It wasn't even a movie, as such, just a glorified recording of their stage performance. (I don't watch Glee, but the bosslady complained about it's lack of movie-ness when her daughter dragged her along).

agreeing with the OP on this and sharing my two cents. thank you

ENOUGH 3D! for the few percentage of us...which it can vary. We can't watch 3D! Well I can but i get a massive headache. Husband cannot watch due to his glasses, its like double glasses for him and he gets worse migraines from eye strain. (I cannot watch it because of my wonky left eye.)
its the latest great thing in movies, wooo, lets put out all movies in 3D and charge more! HAY lets re-release some dvd's in dvd it will bring in mooooore money! hey 3D tv! yeah no its done. move on please

The kids...look as a mom i will bring my kid to the movie, KNOWING whats coming. IE i won't be seeing the movie I want to see, its a movie for her, and her attention span WILL give out and when that happens I take her out and stay out of the theater for a while so she can get a break before going back in. I will not subject her or other patrons to her tantrums or short attention span. Seriously come on!

I've missed alot of movie releases and just wait for dvd due to prices.
HOWEVER for ticket price some theaters give a discount for first showing, or first matinee aka early bird price. OR if you go before 5 or 6pm which is when the price increases. student, kid and senior discount too.
and because of hubs night shift if we go to see a movie its in the early afternoon, plus i am not getting out with a huge crowd of people at night. Also as much as it sucks we avoid opening day on HUGE releases but that is by choice
Repeat after me, "I'm over it"
                              Yeah we're so over, over
Things I hate, that even after all this time...I still came back to the scene of the crime

I always hate people who drag kids to see movies they don't want to see, just cuz they're either too cheap to get a babysitter or can't wait for DVD. Especially the idiot who brought his two little girls to see "Fellowship Of The Ring". Luckily for the rest of us, they were terrified when they saw the Nazgul and had to be taken out, not to return. Unluckily for them, they probably had nightmares after that. Even taking out the scary bits of that movie, it's over three hours long, dammit. What small child can sit still and silent for that long?
