  • Do Not Disturb signs on life

Look I get hanging a do not disturb sign on the door of your hotel room. That makes sense but seriously we don't need you to log into Facebook today just to tell us that you will be ignoring us all and to please not even bothering to call you.

If you don't want me to call you then let it go to voice mail. Don't answer the phone, don't answer the door.

You don't need to announce to the world every time your ignoring it.

Honestly it reminds me of when my little sister would come running into my room to let me know she is ignoring me every few minutes.

Yeah, that's just attention-seeking, in my opinion.

But isn't that really what Facebook is?
    Point to Ponder:

Is it considered irony when someone on an internet forum makes a post that can be considered to look like it was written by a 3rd grade dropout, and they are poking fun of the fact that another person couldn't spell?

As a yahoo status I've done that, but as it's not a huge list I don't see it as attention grabbing, I don't do much facebook so wouldn't even log in to do that.

Mind you, even doing that or sending a text to one guilty party saying not to call on wednesdays still got calls on wednesdays

I've had to do things like that before on days when people just bother me non-stop. Facebook isn't the only method I use to convey said message, though.

But remember the good old days if somebody tried to call you and they got no answer or it went to voicemail?

You didn't get a response to your email?

We just assumed you weren't home or you were busy, or you weren't online.

There was no need to publicly announce to all that you would not be taking calls.

I think it's rather sad that we have come to this point.

If I don't want to take calls I either ignore them, turn my phone on silent, or turn it off completely.

I have some friends that do the opposite of this though. They will post their entire day's plans and then say text or call me if you need anything along with their phone number. It's like they're begging people to call or text them. I don't get it, and these people do it multiple times a day or a week, it's not like they're only occasionally posting it.

I don't answer my landline any more as it's inevitably spam (unless it rings twice, then it's my mother). I use it only for outgoing to take advantage of free evening & weekend calls. Everyone knows to use my mobile.

I've not seen this petulance on my FB...the closest is something along the lines of 'I'm going to be in X all weekend, so not on FB or email'. Which is perfectly fair enough.

People don't understand privacy and boundaries these days. Me, I'm the type that if I called you at 3, and you weren't home, I probably won't call again for several hours, if at all, because I possess greater mental capacities than a goddamn monkey and I know that when you're available you'll see the message I left and call me back.

It's not something we see a lot of these days.

Dends on who called me as to weither I'd call them back, I'm not paying for a fluff conversation filled with silence which as I hardly use my phone these days, there is a greater chance of it being.

Withheld numbers, no message, no contact number, obviously forget about it.

Mom has only done this when she's in the middle of studying. She'll post that even though her messenger is connected her phone will be off. It's so people won't worry when they can't get with her for a random chat. However she also posts a "I'm ready for interaction again" post. And then I usually have to stand in line to get to talk to my own Mother, cause everyone wants Grandma's words or tales of wisdom.

Why would you leave your messenger showing you active if you're not active?

There's a reason there are Away, Do Not Disturb, and Invisible modes for all but the crappiest messenger services. Even Facebook has the option to go offline (and that's about the crappies messenger I've experienced).

Because she's usually using it to talk to a couple study buddies of hers. If she has no study buddies in a class (a very rare thing) then the messenger is turned off completely. For some reason she can set it as away and it'll keep putting her as "online".

I do this when I am on my night shift and need to sleep during the day. That way people know not to call me. I use my phone as my alarm clock so I cannot silence it.
