  • Oh yeah but I have kids

For the last *pretends to check calendar* 11 years since I had a kid every time I mention a trip idea, movie I want to go see, anything that involves going out and about I hear the line, "Oh yeah that would be great but you know kids"

The only time that line is appropriate is if I just said, "Hey let's go to a bar"

If I said, take a trip, go see a movie (not rated R), etc where a kid would not be a hindrance since you know they are capable of enjoying it too can you at least do me the favor of not using the kid as an excuse not to go or telling me how I can't possibly go because I have a kid.

Even worse is something my ex wife and other friends will do. I mention that I am going with friends to see (x) movie and suddenly it's "Oh so your taking your daughter to see it right?" no "Oh so your seeing it first to make sure it's okay for her and then taking her right" uhm again no.

"But" see get this my daughter has expressed no interest in said movie nor knows anything about it. She would go see it to make me happy but I am not going to drag her to a movie she doesn't want to see for that reason when there are activities/movies that she does want.

Stop assuming I am a horrible dad if my every single activity doesn't automatically include my daughter.

That's like saying I am a horrible dad because I don't insist on playing with her and her friends. Guess what you don't have to do everything together.

<gasp> you mean you haven't yet cut off your balls in ritual sacrifice to the almighty child?

Honestly, if you pay whatever support you have to, and keep the child alive, you're doing a good job as a dad. Not everyone can be dad of the year. I aint. But my kids are healthy and smart. Well, sort of......the point is, start deleting people you don't like from your life.

Even before I didn't have custody of my child I was getting this. When I went to see the first Spider-Man movie a bunch of the parents I work with were all, "But how can you afford the time to go see that" Uhm well because my wife can be with the kid when I am not and we take turns going out to do stuff that we want to do bu the other person doesn't want to do and for other times their are baby sitters.

Thank you for not taking your kids to movies you want to see but they wouldn't like.

I only ever made that mistake literally once. My ex-wife insisted we go to the movie with our daughter against my objections that a child that young in the theater wasn't a good idea.
