  • Having the same problems...

...as someone else, but getting none of the sympathy. For instance...

Had a landlord who insisted I not only mow own lawn (NO) but also the neighbor's lawn (NO). (I don't mow lawns period)

"But why do I have to mow Brian's lawn too?"

"Cuz Brian has really bad allergies."

    "So do I."

"So take a benadryl and mow the damn lawn!"

    ----

Could also substitute any problem with a physical reason why you can't do it.

At work, I used to get stuck because everyone needed a day off.

"Why does Jackie get today off?"

"Cuz she has kids and wanted to watch Finding Nemo with them."

"But I have kids too, and I needed to attend a PTA meeting."

"Well I guess you should've thought of that before having kids and getting a job!!!!!"

I think that maybe these people just do not like you.

I am not trying to insult you or anything, but seems that way.

In situations like this, people often get what they get based on who their friends are and their attitudes rather than merit or need.

...or, sometimes, because they spoke up first. *Somebody* has to mow the lawn, and *somebody* has to work. (And for the lawn... who is responsible for that, according to your rental agreement? Regardless, if your FIRST response is, as you've represented it here, "I don't do lawns," then mentioning allergies later makes it sound like an excuse rather than a reason.)

I have a few coworkers like that.

If THEY are feeling sick, no one should ever dare question why they'd go home early or not want to go to work. Some of them are even delusional enough to deny ever taking a mental health day or just calling in for shits and giggles (everyone has done it, alright, let's not play perfect here).

But when my month-long migrane first started, and that day at work that I asked to go home two hours into the shift......a couple of my coworkers were giving me shit for wasting a trip to work, or going home over "just a headache"....nevermind that a few of them have gotten pissed off at someone at work, and magically gotten "sick" the next day.

No I don't lead with "I don't mow lawns!" I just don't. To me, it's a trivial matter. Why would I mow it? It makes me feel like I have the flu afterwards!

Reminds me of my old c-store too, we had one employee who managed to get away without doing anything, because of 2-3 various disabilities she was always coming up with, and everyone let her slide because of it.

ONE TIME after a CAR ACCIDENT, I was unable to one minor piece of my job that required some lifting....do you think I got the same treatment as she did? She can't do anything EVERY DAY because of her "Back problems", but just one day when I have a legitimate problem it's all of a sudden a huge clusterfuck.

I hate people. I want off this planet too.

unless your landlord contracted you out to mow every tenant's place, or it somehow got snuck into your rental agreement, then it is not your problem. kindly remind him that it's his duty as landlord to either pay for a person to do it, or do it himself. then tell him your going rate for mowing a lawn is $200 an hour, with a written contract. if he's stupid enough to go for it, hell $200 buys alot of benadryl.
as for work, if they want you to do things to further an existing injury, tell them unless they put it in writing so you have something to take to HR when your injury gets worse on the job, no deal.
