I don't mind people having opinioins. I don't mind if they get all sorts of crazy about it. But when you are being checked out by a cashier, do not start a fight over politcs or religion (or anything else for that matter). Small talk is fine, but it irks me when people want to argue with a total stranger who is trying to do their job. I usually say "Have a nice day" and move on to the next person. They get the clue. Thankfully I haven't needed a manager.
Also (prolly around '08) had someone try to stop from someone buying some ice cream "because George Bush endorses it". I understand not buying something cause of something you don't like. But don't go to a total stranger and say such things. Some people (like me) don't really care who endorses or who owns what.
As I said, having opinions is fine. But some people just take it too far..
