    My brother makes sublime mashed potatoes. Thins 'em with milk, which does a lot to make them more tasty and creamier. Lumpy mashed potatoes, and the textureless 'instant' stuff are both way nasty.

      I agree. I use milk in mine, and butter, and salt, and whip all that together in creamy goodness. I love 'em.

            Butter in the water while they boil; sour cream, bacon bits, and chives when they get mashed. Soooo yummy.

              One thing that may help with texture: using an electric mixer instead of actually mashing them. Or, if the ones you don't like are made that way, vice versa. Very different textures.

                I actually really like instant mashed potatoes. If making homemade, I usually just do boiled potatoes. Peel and cut up red potatoes, boil with butter and salt until tender, eat. Mom used to make that all the time so it's a total comfort food.
