  • Eating/chewing/using bathroom while on phone

I really hate this. Particularly on business calls.

I had someone tonight who called into my call center and was eating and smacking his lips so loudly that I couldn't even understand WTF he was trying to ask me.

    Disgusting.

One of my employees had one on Saturday who was full-on using the bathroom. She got to hear the pee streaming into the bowl, then the flush, then the washing of the hands....all while she attempted to remain professional and rebook his flights for him.

Who the fuck DOES this??? Were they raised that this is acceptable behavior, or do us CS peons just not rate enough to be treated with common courtesty and professional respect?

    I'm thinking it's the latter.

I don't think it's just customer service representatives treated like that. I don't know how many times I've heard people using their phones in the bathroom in what seemed like a personal conversation. I guess my parents raised me better than that. I don't eat while talking on the phone or go to the bathroom or whatever else.

I've done it a couple of times, however in both cases it was kind of unavoidable, I was actually at lunch when I was called and didn't really have time to stop eating and the one time I was on the toilet when the call I'd been on hold for was finally picked up, there wasn't anything I could really do as it was 1am and I'd been on hold for 9 hours.

You'd get a pass from me on the bathroom thing if you literally held for 9 hours. That's insane. The person I'm speaking of held for no longer than 60 seconds. I'm quite sure he could have either finished his business and then called, or waited the 3 minutes it would have taken us to fix his flight and THEN done his business.

I get that there's exceptions in every situation, but the majority of people who do this, IMO are just inconsiderate douchebags.

I can only remember one time that I had to take a phone call while in the bathroom. I had recently moved to another town and was on the hunt for a job, and of course I got a call from one of the places I had applied to while in the bathroom. Figures. Not wanting to give any reason for them to reconsider (not like it would've mattered after the fact... I didn't end up taking the job as it was the weirdest circumstances for a job offer I have ever gotten, but that's something else entirely) I took the call. However, I made sure that there was no way the person on the other end of the line would have been any the wiser where I was.

I can't understand why people would actually make business phone calls while chomping on food or while in the bathroom, sounds and all, when it was something that could've waited until they were done. That's disgusting and complete and utter douchebaggery, plain and simple.

Half the time I would call IV he was in the bathroom and I would apologize and say I'd call back later, but he'd just keep talking and continue on with his business at the same time. However the majority of the times he would call me he was completely fine, but sometimes he would be eating or in the bathroom when he called. I brought that up once and he said people have to get stuff done and make calls at the same time, it saves time right? I told him I could hear everything and he said there would be no more bathroom calls and if I called while he was in there he would ignore his phone.

I'll eat while on hold. but that's it. I never call people while eating food or in the bathroom. If I get a call while in the bathroom and it's really important, I'll answer without flushing and making noise.

My mom has no problem talking on the phone while in the bathroom. It's so gross. And then she gets mad at me for calling her out on it. No one wants to hear that stuff.

The gum is both far better and far worse than the others, and for the same reason: even if you have gum in your mouth when the phone rings and you don't want to spit it out or swallow it, it's easy to set it to the side of your mouth and not CHEW it during the call.

For me it depends who I'm on the phone with. My brother and I have no problems talking to each other if either of us are in the bathroom. However, if I need to be professional, I will wait until the phone call ends.

Being on the phone wile using the bathroom is just fucking disgusting. I sure as hell don't wanna hear somebody peeing or taking a dump while I'm trying to talk to them. The smacking sounds people make while chewing drive me up the fucking wall. It makes me wonder if they were never taught any manners let alone phone manners at all.

My ex wondered why I would say I'd call her back. I hate being on the phone while going to the bathroom. The eating thing, I save that for my friends, we do it to one another. But if its needing to be professional, I will stop eating. Thankfully its very rare, since I hate calling people.

Apparently manners are a limited resource that have to be rationed.

People like this "mother" should be considered child abusers. I think I would have just summarily refused to serve her just for making such stupid comments.

As for bad phone manners, I once witnessed a man while shopping at the local Barnes & Noble. I was washing my hands after using the restroom. This man bursts through the restroom door, and heads straight for the stalls while yakking on his phone. I hear the sounds of rustling, and then he starts blasting away on the toilet while still yakking on his phone. I just laughed to myself at his stupidity as I dried my hands and walked out.
