  • Fake signs going viral on youtube

    And facebook. People do not fact check any more. Now while Snopes probably has been wrong on occasion, I heard about the 'We support Chick-Fil-A' signs that went viral. Think there was a McDonalds, Wendys, KFC...not sure who else..but they were faked.

    Who wants to place a wager that the people who watch the viral videos will have no clue though.

    Or maybe not so viral..I swear I seen a viral video with several fake signs..but now only one with like 460 views can be found. Guess Youtube got them.

    There was some Wendys buildings that did actually have signs supporting Chik Fil A confirmed by the owner of the franchise. But that's all the news reported.

      That first one is especially bad. As in obviously a fake; McDonald's would never make their road sign look like that, much less use it to advertise for the competition... and the letters are even the wrong size, yet hover there anyway.

      But the Wendy's ones are real. And I'd love to hear just exactly what corporate said when they found out about them.

        Well, they didn't care for them, and they were down before the end of the day, with Wendy's corporate making a statement that they support all of their customers.

          Nevermind the PR nightmare. That's just bad business. You don't support your competitor. You lap up every scrap of bad business they get and lure their customers. Make money off their bad publicity.

            I am sure some of the individual places did put up signs to the effect. A corporation, imo should have no stance on matters such as this at all. Not civil rights, nor anything but business and the conducting of it.

            Though according to some articles, Chick-Fil-A's support day set a record for most sells. *shrugs* Even bad publicity is publicity, so they are reaping the benefits of all the free publicity.

              If you trust random bloggers, one supposed employee of CFA (linked earlier - by Andara, I think) reported that Monday (two days before the "Support Day") had dismal sales, because people were holding off and waiting for Wednesday. I'll be interested in hearing about their year-over-year sales figures after this.

                Me too, and there were protesters out during that time..but not much is being said about that yet. Or not that I've heard. Only that some of the Chick-Fil-A had to close early due to running out of food.

                  actually, there are times you support your competitor... when Chick-Fil-A has lines out the door and closing because they have run out of food and is turning people away, you suddenly support them so you can pilfer the people who have been turned away or are unwilling to wait. Hell, even in the normal day to day business you support your competitors if you have complementary products, if I'm Hersheys chocolate, I'm damned sure going to promote Stay Puffed Marshmellows and Honey Maid graham crackers... because I know what else people buy when they buy those two things, my chocolate. Wendys and Chick-Fil-A may not be the best example of that, but many people who like fried chicken also like burgers, and if you can get the people who like Chick-Fil-A to like you as the burger of choice for when they feel like burgers instead of chicken, then by all means, you support that business to make their customers like you.

                    I could maybe see another fast food place officially supporting them *IF* they were being targeted, not over some donations and comments made, but for something that was really an attack on the whole industry. (Don't ask for an example.) Especially when CFA is so vastly smaller (if that's an allowable pair of words) than Wendy's or McDonald's.

                    (I also remember, though it wasn't an official thing, that for about a year we sent a bunch of customers to the Dairy Queen. Because home office took away our soft serve machine and replaced it with a Good Humor freezer, which, to add insult to injury, Good Humor then refused to stock. Naturally, people who wanted a burger *and* a sundae started getting their burgers over there too.)

                      All I ever saw about these signs, thankfully, was the notice that there was a website on which anyone could create an image of whatever message they wanted, shown on a fast food restaurant marquee; I've always been partial to, "My manager told me to put something on the sign so I did."
                      But yeah, Wendy's didn't support Chick-Fil-A. A Wendy's franchisee in South Carlonia (why am I not surprised that a guy in South Carolina is anti-gay?) supported Chick-Fil-A.

                      Oh, and since this is Fratching, and I know I can share my blunt opinion as long as I'm not attacking other posters: Nothing against anyone here who supports Click-Fil-A, you can do whatever you want. But Mr. Cathy?

                      You suck. Bite me. If I want to support a Christian fast food business, I'll go to In-N-Out Burger. Their food rocks, and they're not anti-gay.

                        The worst of all this is that every time I hear about it or see another opinion piece relating to the whole Chick-fil-A matter, I crave a box of their amazingly good nuggets.

                        But I'm really sick of the fake signs in general, whether fast food or a church. If you see a *real* one that's funny, that's different. (And no, "now hiring all shits" isn't funny. So please quit stealing the F's.)
