They don't even try to find homes for the ones they pick up, and they've gotten in hot water more than once for claiming to be placing animals they just outright kill, including highly-adoptable ones, such as young kittens and puppies.
They also had a team going around and picking up healthy animals from shelters under false pretenses, killing them in their van (and then lying about having tried to find homes despite having the animals for less than a day), and then dumping the bodies in other companies' trash bins. PETA tried to claim they knew nothing about the operation, but other than the dumping, this is really SOP for them.
Dr. Daniel Kovich of the Virginia agriculture department determined that PETA employees kill 84 percent of the animals in their custody within 24 hours of receiving them. That's not even long enough to do an assessment.
They try to claim that they only take the worst cases of animals that can't be adopted out, but we all know that to be bullshit. They're a bunch of anti-animal zealots out to push animals back into dwindling habitats where they can die and be killed without any human intervention. >_>

Here's the episode:

though you might find an episode with better resolution on Hulu or Netflix, if you're in the US.

I agree that the PETA types are a bunch of hypocrites. They feel that wearing animal skins is wrong, so they throw paint on middle-aged women wearing fur coats. Meanwhile, they ignore other people wearing animal skins - such as bikers in leather jackets. They should put their money where their mouths are (literally - dental work ain't cheap) and treat all skin-wearers the same way.

We don't let our cats out much- one only goes out with my parents when they're working in the yard, and the other hardly gets out at all, but if anyone tried that on our cats, they'd get throat punched. Or be used as sword fodder- I've got a collection.

PETA seems to have a policy of doing whatever the fuck they feel like to further their own goals, whatever the hell they happen to be (because they sure as shit aren't what they claim they are).
From grabbing people's pets out of their yards, discarding collars and other identification, claiming to take animals to be adopted before turning around and destroying them, using celebrities' likenesses without permission (particularly egregious when said celebrity doesn't support them at all), dumping bodies in dumpsters they don't own, allowing untrained personnel handle controlled substances, etc, etc, etc.
Apparently there are very few things they won't do, law and decency be damned.

Reminds me in a way of the hunt sabs who kept attacking fox hunts, back when they were legal in Britain. They loved foxes so much... yet, they obviously hated hounds and horses when they pepper sprayed foxhounds, or threw fireworks at horses."Oh wow, I can't believe how stupid I used to be and you still are."

As usual PETA and their ilk, falls into a trap that happens too often.
They simply forget that we're apex predatory animals.
Anthrocentrism at its second worst. And just like the worst there's the subtext of we aren't just animals that can think abstractly.
Then again I remember didn't they try to force a literal carnivore to be vegan?
