OK, so some of you by now will have no doubt heard about Jill Meagher. Long story short, she worked for the Australian Broadcasting Commission (government TV station) and wound up being raped and murdered one night by a guy who is now standing trial. Amazing how the police will pull their finger out of their butt to do their jobs once a celebrity is on the case....but that's another rant.

Today the Advertiser decided to ask "Do you feel safe in Adelaide?" EVERY single comment went along the lines of "Well I was followed by a random person in high heels and a turban, I don't feel safe, we must increase police presence!"

*sigh* it's ONE. FREAKING. DEATH.

ETA: This is not meant to be disrespectful to the person in any way, this is more of a rant at people who get hyped up over the most stupidest shit. Also, it was partially inspired by people who keep posting to her "memorial" page on Facebook....given that virtually nobody heard of her until a couple of days ago.

Oh I hate this too. We get this with the war on terror here in the states. The moment there is a a terrorist attempt, there are more calls for security which make us one step closer to a police state. But anyone who thinks "hey, maybe this is going too far" might as well be a terrorist themself as far as these reactionaries are concerned.

I also love how thinking counter meassures are being taken too far makes someone a heartless bastard who wants the bad guys to win.
