OK, so here's the scenario. You're in good health, work hard, and enjoy indulging in some junk food every once in a while. If you've experienced what I have lately, then the following is likely to happen:

A friend, coworker, SO, family member, you name it, comes up to you and picks up the container of whatever you're eating and proceeds to read the nutrition facts to you out loud.

"Do you KNOW how many calories are in this Big Mac/bag of chips/pack of cookies etc?"

REALLY, dumbass? I thought it was HEALTHY. Now, I'm not thin by any means, but not grossly overweight either. Why do people feel the need to come up to me and read the nutrition info of whatever I'm eating? It's insulting to think I haven't read it already, and to be honest it's none of your damn business.

Anyone else experienced something similar? Or do you disagree and feel like people are just looking out for me?

    I hate that!!!

I am not an imbecile. If I choose to eat something, that's my business. I am the one who has to live with the consequences, so bugger off.
    Point to Ponder:

Is it considered irony when someone on an internet forum makes a post that can be considered to look like it was written by a 3rd grade dropout, and they are poking fun of the fact that another person couldn't spell?

I could be snarky, and say that you should pick better friends s.os etc...
      But I'll resist...
Even healthy foods in excess is unhealthy.
I loooooove prunes and they are reasonably nutritious. Do you know what happens when you "accidently" eat an entire package in one "sitting"?
I could feel it as it careened from small intestine to ascending colon, SLAM, turn corner to transverse colon, SLAM, turn corner to descending colon on the to inevitable discomfort in my sit down area.

If anyone starts reading labels, tell them my story. That should inform them the error of their ways, or at least get them to shut, grimace, and walk away.

        Smokers get that, too.

On the odd occasion when I'd smoke in public, I'd usually hide in a corner away from everyone. That never stopped complete strangers from going out of their way to come up to me and say, "Smoking is bad for you."

Who in the bloody Northern Hemisphere doesn't know this by now?

Same goes for junk food. I don't know anyone who cracks open a bag of potato chips and pats themselves on the back for eating their veggies.

I've given up smoking, but the potato chips stay.

A mate of mine who's on the plump side once had a guy come up to her and say, "You're pregnant, you shouldn't be smoking." She retorted with, "I'm not pregnant, I'm FAT."

I've also had interfering people, including a morbidly obese woman, tell me that smoking's unhealthy. Well, guess what; I KNOW! I don't care! Leave me the fuck alone! -.-

People tell me that I shouldn't be proud of being able to eat a XXL pizza all by myself. (a local pizza place gives out t-shirts for it, it's like a badge of honor back home) People tell me how unhealthy it must be for me. Hm, last I checked, my cholesterol is great, my body is in decent shape. Don't be hating because I can shovel down food.

My response is usually a raised eyebrow, and the reply "Telling me that may be bad for you, want to stick around and find out how bad?"

I ride my bike 4+ miles a day, my heart and lungs are currently fine, my weight is fine-I don't care how many calories are in the krispy kreme and chocolate milk I just consumed, I'll burn it off on my ride home-I ate it because my blood sugar was low due to skipping two meals today and I hate orange juice! Mind your own damn business!!!!!

A few weeks ago I was in kidney failure due to an infection(ok now-yay antibiotics!) and my doctor told me that because I couldn't eat anything to drink a half-gallon of gatorade a day to help keep my blood sugar stable, and to keep my electrolytes in check-I had people telling me how bad that was for me*("too much sugar, it's unhealthy")-um you are not my doctor who ORDERED me to consume this crap(I hate it, I'd rather drink water), so leave me alone.

*For the record they were telling me to drink Juice, which has MORE sugar and I couldn't have it with the antibiotics I was on(Ciproflaxin)

I get that a lot. My folks get onto me about how bad my eating habits are, and I admit, they do suck royally. Yet, despite all this, I'm still one of the healthiest people I know. I exercise, I take my vitamins measured out to the ideal level, etc., etc. I know more about maintaining health than probably 90% of people walking around, plus I just seem to be blessed with a naturally powerful immune system. I'm just lucky in that regard, I guess. I know it drives them nuts that my entire family can be sick for weeks, while the daughter who lives on pizza, Dr Pepper and ramen noodles has the sniffles for two days.

I can eat a whole pizza by myself, and if I want to treat myself to chocolate cake, I will. XD Yet my weight has stayed consistant for over a decade, my skin is mostly good (cept just before my period) and I don't get ill very often. When I do, it's down to my weak chest and the fact that I work with the public. I know people who are healthniks who get annoyed with the fact that they get ill more than me; including a friend who went down with a dose of flu last winter, despite the fact that he's vegetarian, eats healthily and doesn't smoke; whereas I, with my weak chest, ciggies and tendency to eat lots of chocolate, escaped. XD Hell, I was even offered a flu jab last winter cuz of my chest; I turned it down cuz I hate needles, and figured there was an elderly person out there who deserved it more than me.

First, I wonder how old you are. I won't ask as it's somewhat rude. But I'ld bet a penny that you're under 40. If not, then I agree that your body is unusual.
I've never had the flu in my life, and my mother has had it only twice in her mumble, mumble years of life.

OT: The elderly don't deserve flu shots more than the young. That's an odd opinion. Individuals may need it more than you, whether they be elderly or young shouldn't matter.

Come on. You know that there's a big difference between blowing carcinogens and other iritants into the communal airspace and shoving junkfood into your personal space.

Or, let he who is without vice cast the first, "You should(n't) do that."

The difference is that you would be better able to shake off the effects of such a disease. The elderly and young? It's a far greater risk of killing them.

That, and flu shots are not really available to children under the age of 16, so the elderly it is!
But the very old DO have a much higher mortality rate from the common flu and are at higher risk for pneumonia than those of us who are younger, heartier and hale. There's also no shortage this year, and we aren't getting too many people out for shots, so feel free to come on down and one of our friendly pharmacists will stick you if you wish.

I'm definitely under 40. I said "elderly person" faciously (sp?) Could have been toddler, middle aged, young or whatever person, I just don't see why I should have been offered a flu jab just cuz I happen to have a weak chest.

I eat what I can afford. I can only afford easy to make microwavable meals and fast food. But I exercise. Every day. For almost an hour a day, on a lazy day, 30 minutes. I'm not fat in any way shape or form.

I don't really care what anyone thinks of my "poor" diet. I wish I could afford pounds of hamburger and venison and fruits and veggies and make several course meals.....

But then of course, my kitchen sink would be full every day and I don't like that.
