Strange... I named a hamster Daisy after this guy here: http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip...9666/daisy.jpg He used to be the guitarist in Marilyn Manson's band but left after personality clashes with Manson. Sure looks like a guy to me. XD

Let's see:
There was my cat Snowball. Yes, he was white. I wanted to name him Todd, but my mother insisted on Snowball.
There are my two cats that I have now named CJ and Ella. We got Ella from an animal shelter and rescued CJ, so they came with the names. I kinda renamed CJ to Siege (kinda sounds like his original name, but at the same time, it's not a reminder of his abusive former owners)
We used to have a boxer/beagle/pitbull mix puppy whom we named Foxy Love, Foxy for short. She was a sassy little thing, so the name fit. We had to give her away eventually.
Then my former stepsisters brought a hamster to our house and her name was Mercedes.
For a few weeks, we provided a foster home to a cat, whom we named Mufasa because of his mane. Then we just shortened it to Moo-Moo.
My grandparents own a Border Collie named Sam Brown-Lightfoot (he's brown with white paws). My grandma watched LotR alot and wanted to name him Frodo, but my grandpa wanted a one syllable name. I say Pip would have been better.
My SO's parents own a schnauser (sp?) named Misty(maybe it's spelled Mysty).
Then there is a cat who hangs around outside of my work, so I named it McBaby. I dunno if it is a boy or a girl, so I decided an androgynous name would work out."It's after Jeopardy, so it is my bed time."- Me when someone made a joke about how "old" I am.

It was a lot of fun calling the vet to make an appointment.
"And what's the kitty's name?"
"Kitty."--- I want the republicans out of my bedroom, the democrats out of my wallet, and both out of my first and second amendment rights. I try to name a pet based on aspects of appearance and/or behavior that are unlikely to change.
I royally screwed up with my cat Cerberus. He swatted at me with claws the first time he met me though he was a small kitten. That was the one and only time he ever swatted anyone with claws, and he onlly swatted with paws when my GF refused to get out of his seat.
The world belonged to me and cerbie, Tonya was just an overstayed guest.
I did better with Pepper. He was black, and love spicy food. On a meat sandwhich he stole the green pepper. He licked up hot wing sauce sans meat.

I have no issue with people naming their pets 'people' names. Heck, my dog's name is Rosie
And yeah, I get that some people are terrible at coming up with names. But seriously...if I walk down a street in this town and run into someone walking a boxer...I can almost bet you money that boxer is named Tyson. A boxer named Bud would be a nice change. Even one named Bob or some other unimaginative name.
It's the cliche that gets me. It's a lack of even the remotest effort. It's the 'I saw it in the media so I have to imitate it because I'm a mindless sheep' mentality....and then the dumb surprise when said person finds out every OTHER bloody person in the world named their clownfish Nemo too! Imagine that...

Wherein Slyt proves himself a dick....
Hey.
I haven't really read through this thread much, but I had always imagined it was about 'favourite (aka 'pet') rants' that people have, not actually about 'domesticated animals rant'.
returning to thread....ZOE: Preacher, don't the Bible got some pretty specific things to say about killing?
SHEPHERD BOOK: Quite specific. It is, however, Somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps.

I have a Siberian Husky named Kyleigh. I didn't choose it, when we adopted her she was already named, and responded to it, so no sense in changing it.
I have two Sugar Gliders named Peanut and Hazelnut (aka Hazel) Peanut was already named when I adopted him.
When I adopted Hazel, she too was named Peanut, so I decided to stick with the "nut" theme and changed it to Hazel.

Actually we don't find them all that difficult to care for, if you have the proper information. We've had ours for a year and a half now, with no health difficulties. They haven't injured themselves or gotten loose in the house either.
We have an exotic vet in our town and they are taken in yearly for a physical examination. They do not require any vaccines.
We fed them a specialized diet, it's not really much more expensive than feeding our dog. They also get vitamins in powder form, to ensure that they stay healthy.
Nocturnal animals don't work well as pets for a lot of people but they work out great for us becauase I work 3rd shifs, and on my days off I stay up all night anway. Also my BF works 2nd shift and stays up most of the night too. So really they work out great for us, but for a lot of people I can see why they wouldn't be the ideal pet.
