My store had over 70 call ins on the first day we flooded from tropical storm Debby. As far as I know, no one was questioned, and on the third day, my boss even called me at my house just to make sure I was OK.
My friend/neighbor, however . . . actually works at a drug store IN one of the towns that flooded really badly. We're talking buildings destroyed, several inches of water in the shops kind of stuff. Her boss was angry at her for not coming in and accused her of 'using her pregnancy as an excuse', so she asked me if she could use some of the pictures and videos I took of our impassable roads. The one in particular that she would HAVE to use to get to work was under 6 feet of water. Her boss was still skeptical
People are basically assholes, I guess, and lose sight of what's more important than keeping a business running.
