  • Doctors!

We've had quite a few threads like this on CS, so why not bring it here?

Some people don't go to the doctor because they don't have insurance. Some people don't go because they are lazy. A lot of people, I'm finding, won't go because they hate their doctors or the doctors that they end up seeing.

I only go to the doctor for my Pap Smears and Depo shots. That's it. Unless I were knocking on death's door, I'm not going. I am sick and tired of going to the doctor with a real ailment, and being told to quit smoking and sleep more. I'm sick of everything being blamed on me smoking or tanning.

I hate being treated like a drama queen. I certainly don't act like one, but I almost feel inclined to, when I'm made to feel that I'm making my ailment up for attention, or that I've done this all to myself and instead of getting better, I should just quit doing what I'm doing.

Your doctor sucks. My doctor just says to do things in moderation and I'll be alright. Now that's a kickass doctor.

Ugh. I hate going to the doctor's. When I know something is wrong with me, they say nothing is wrong with me. When I go in the second time, then they find something wrong with me. It's really frustrating because I will be in pain and out of school (and trust me, I don't miss school for anything), but "they don't feel the need to run any tests on me". One time, a doctor named a specific test(an ultrasound) that they didn't need to do. At the time, my stomach was hurting all the time. Then I went to another doctor, they performed an ultrasound and found that I had ovarian cysts and some had burst. That could have been dangerous. We had a girl in my class go catatonic and get surgery because she had cysts that burst.

      Sorry to rant. I just...ugh.

My fiance doesn't like banks, doesn't trust banks, and would rather not go near one ever again...

and i am beginning to feel the same way about doctors.

Since my fiance and i moved to New Jersey we have had the worst luck when it comes to him and doctors. He has a heart condition and we're desperate to find him a decent cardiologist in the area. He's been to at least 3 doctors and talked to at least 3 more, none of whom will help him out. His prescription for his heart meds ran out months ago and no doctor in Jersey will prescribe him any more. Even his doctor in Brooklyn won't write him a prescription until he sees him, and the one time my fiance managed to make an appointment and keep it, he hauled ass all the way into the city only to be told they couldn't see him after all. So i'm to the point now where i'm about ready to file a complaint against this doctor with the medical board. For a cardiologist to withhold heart meds from a patient is ridiculous.

I'm telling you right now, if you have a heart condition, do yourself a favor; DON'T move to New Jersey!

katie, my dad is an RN in the Poconos. I might be able to find some decent recommendations for a cardiologist with a phone call. What county in NJ are you in? That'll help me limit the question a bit.

I don't know where in Jersey you are, but I could name a couple decent ones pretty easily. My grandfather's heart doctors were all amazing.

Even more reason to rile me up. My coworker, Jem, she has a friend also named Jem. This Jem injured herself pretty bad at a Gavin DeGraw concert a few months back. Messed up her elbow really nice.

Anyway, she's been in and out of the hospital, because whatever surgery she had done on her elbow was a complete failure. She has been on Vicodin ever since to ease the pain.

She had an emergency the other night and was out of Vicodin (yeah, I understand that's her own fault there) and coworker Jem had to leave work to take her to the hospital. Her regular doctor obviously wasn't in, as this was very late at night. The doctor she saw (after spending 3 hours waiting in the ER in extreme pain) was some self righteous stupid cow who refused to give her anymore Vicodin, and pretty much accused her of being a hypocondriac and a junkie because of all the Vicodin she's been on. Coworker Jem witnessed the entire thing and told all of us that she hadn't felt the urge to sucker punch someone so hard so badly in quite a long time.

Jem told us last night that the other Jem filed a complaint against that doctor as soon as she saw a different doctor, got her Vicodin, and was feeling better. Let's hope that doctor gets reamed a new asshole.

One "joke" that I always think of when I hear about these self-righteous doctors:

What do you call someone who graduated medical school at the bottom of their class?

                Doctor.

We're in Monmouth County. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

                    Yay! Monmouth County ftw!

I'll talk to my mom tomorrow and ask her which doctors my grandfather went to and get back to you.

I know Jersey Shore Medical Center over in Neptune is a pretty good one. Heart problems is one of their specialties. The nurses were good to him (always something you worry about when someone is at the hospital), my grandfather NEVER complained about them. That was the place where they put the pacemaker in him. Amazing job they did. As I said, I'll talk to my mom and see which doctors he's been to.

I'm so going to have to toss my own little horror story in here.

When I was younger...let's see, that was 10th grade, so I was 15...I was involved with an incident that led to a baseball bat in the ribcage. I don't know exactly what happened, but after that, there was a strange...distortion in my ribs, like one side was jutting out too far. When I finally felt brave enough to poke at it, I could feel a DENT.

I get to the hospital, do all the checking in, etc. The doctor proceeds to take the following action...

                      1. Give me an X-Ray.
                      2. Look at X-Ray.
                      3. Declare he can't see anything wrong.
                      4. Basically say "Okay, I can't see anything wrong so there's nothing wrong. Shoo."

...um, EXCUSE ME. I know I didn't go to school for ten years or whatever so I'm not the expert, but there is a FUCKING DENT IN MY RIBCAGE. The bones are warped. BONES AREN'T SUPPOSED TO WARP.

I was so disgusted by the time it was all over with that I just walked out with my mom and took to wrapping my ribs with ace bandages. After about six or seven months of that, the dent wasn't as noticeable anymore and only hurt when the weather is messy or if I laid on my stomach too long. After 11 years, it still gives me issues once in a while, but I have to guess it's not gonna kill me.

That's only one in a long, long long list of things doctors have done to my family though, including at least one incident where I'm pretty convinced my pediatrician was trying to kill me. I only go now when I've decided the death I'll suffer by not going will hurt more than the one I'll suffer by going.
