Things like that are, generally speaking, best taken on a case-by-case basis. There are no good policies that will be a decent blanket response to such as this. We don't really have enough to go on.
Suggest PMing Peppergirl with the details and we can take a view then.

I'm of the opinion that, on fratching, if you make a statement, then be prepared to back it up and stand by it.
It's one thing to say, "I retract my comments," in a further post if the arguments of others have swayed one's opinion, and it's another thing entirely to go passive aggressively editing and deleting as if to say, "Fine. You win. I retracted my comments."
It disrupts the flow of a thread and quite frankly, pisses me off when that happens, especially when the retracted posts have been quoted.Point to Ponder:
Is it considered irony when someone on an internet forum makes a post that can be considered to look like it was written by a 3rd grade dropout, and they are poking fun of the fact that another person couldn't spell?

The Mod Team has given me permission to respond publicly given the nature of the PM in question, provided that I don't post the actual PM in whole or in part. And that's just fine with me. I won't even mention the name of the person who sent it to me.
I just want to point out to the nameless individual that going out of your way to give someone a piece of your mind and then closing all methods of communication so that they can't respond, no matter how polite the response might be, is petty and childish.
