I'm the weirdo who is quite comfortable driving on a sheet of solid ice with all-season on the car. I've had to do to that couple of times due to freak weather, but instead of freaking out when I felt the car start to slide I just let it do its thing. I didn't end up in a ditch or hitting another car like so many others did - I ended up exactly where I needed to get to and took another route home. Not all the roads were sudden sheets of ice like the road I used to take to pick my son up from school, thankfully. And there was no real indication that there was ice until you were already on it. However, I wouldn't go out looking for those sort of road conditions, especially where I live now with all the hills!
I have found that the most dangerous drivers in bad road conditions are those who think they're invincible (like so many 4x4 owners) and don't bother with the proper care and attention that the road and weather conditions require. Only when absolutely required did I even bother putting my old truck into 4x4 mode, and even then I was careful. Well, other than the few times I went mud-bogging...it was fun to see my old, small 1986 Ford Ranger pulling bigger and newer trucks out of the mud
Damn, I miss that truck.
