Being Pressured To Watch More TV Shows.

i deal with this tv crap all the damn time. i live in the boonies where cable isn't an option, and i don't see the point in forking out money for a digital box for the few local channels when i can get the news free online. all my coworkers know i don't have tv because i've had it come up in conversation repeatedly.
but i swear lately it's like every damn shift they're sayin "you NEED to watch XYZ show" and i'm just, at this point, going "i don't have damn television stop telling me to watch things!"All uses of You, You're, and etc are generic unless specified otherwise.

I watch TV when I'm drawing or doing mindless chores that require me to stay in one place for a while. I read when I want quiet, when I'm trying to sleep, or if I decide to take a bath instead of a shower. Can't read and draw at the same time, you know, and I can only listen to the snob-approved classical music station for so long before I need something with a story."So, my little Zillians... Have your fun, as long as I let you have fun... but don't forget who is the boss!"

Sometimes people do this with TV to me, but since we don't have cable I can usually shut them down by saying maybe I'll check it out when it hits Netflix. My husband watches one current TV show (Arrow) and I don't watch anything current.
I have one friend who does this with comics. Luckily I don't work much (he's a co-worker) but every single time I see him he has a list of what I should be reading (I don't read anything current except The Wake). And there's always at least two Wolverine titles in there even though I loathe Wolverine and have made this clear many times. In retaliation, every I see him I push the benefits of Witchblade, which I think interests him as much as Wolverine intersts me.
And yeah, I read AND watch TV. It's amazing how one can do that.

That said, I'm not a fan of being pressured to watch shows, either. I don't care how good The Walking Dead is, I'm likely never going to watch it. I don't like zombies, and I don't like gore, so that's two strikes already, and after four episodes, I didn't like any of the characters, either, so it's not going on my playlist. Some People Are Alive Only Because It's Illegal To Kill Them.

I'm too obsessive to watch more than one or two shows at a time(a 'light' and a 'heavy' show). When I get into a show, I want to watch every episode, watch them all again, view the commentaries, read the interviews, see the storyboards and check out the writers'/actors' new projects.
My current 'like it but don't care strongly about it' is Burn Notice. I am still recovering from Life on Mars- I hope to get through another series before Doctor Who comes off hiatus. My sister is currently watching 4 different shows that each would absorb my entire attention individually. I don't know how she does it.

I'm currently following about a dozen.
Of the top of my head: Castle, Bones, Sleepy Hollow, Arrow, Tomorrow People, Almost Human, Grimm, The Blacklist, Agents of SHIELD, Psych, The Following, Hunter x Hunter (anime through Crunchyroll), and catching back up on Naruto. Eventually, I'll get back to watching Supernatural and How I Met Your Mother.Faith is about what you do. It's about aspiring to be better and nobler and kinder than you are. That is just nuts. The only non complete series I am following right now are Supernatural, Doctor Who, and Sherlock(which barely counts, the eps are so few and far between).
Wavering between Grimm(with the cancellation terror) and just rewatching the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes series- I do want to watch Agents. <3 me some Coulson.

I sympathize with you guys - I work in a very nerdy environment, so we're constantly surrounded by this kind of stuff. My closest coworker, whom I love and adore and would do anything for, is the craziest Walking Dead fan I've ever met. Because of this, every time he sees a new episode, he starts up again. "YOU HAVE TO WATCH IT AHMAHGOD BEST SHOW EVAAAAR", he gets all fangirly... And then I remind him that I am terrified of zombies, that I struggled to get through Zombieland even with its comedy elements, and that there is no way in hell I'd ever watch that show.
Yet, a week later, it'll start up all over again when the new episode comes out. I like to think that people just love something so much that they want to make their friends and family happy by spreading that thing they love around as much as possible, and that slightly reduces the annoying-ness of it all... But only slightly.

My nerdy coworkers are the opposite of yours, std.
Mine refuse to watch anything that was ever a comic book (oh, pardon me, graphic novel) and was turned into a TV show or movie, because "sheep people" like me are the ones who "ruin" them.
So any Talking Dead we do at work Monday nights, doesn't involve them, it's just us die hards. LOL. I think our version of the talk show is way better than the idiot that hosts the real Talking Dead show after the show.

I made a thread about it a couple of years ago.
They think that Hollywood taking the big name actors and letting them play such iconic comic book/video game heros is a waste and a shame. I mean, if you're talking about Ben Affleck being Batman, ok, I agree. But that's about it.
I don't think many of them even own comic books or the original video games, like for Resident Evil. I think mostly it's just a way of patting themselves on the back and feeling superior the way a lot of geeks do. In all honesty, I bet if you asked how the comic book of Walking Dead versus the show goes, as far as differences, they probably couldn't tell you.

I currently watch 6 shows during the week (or rather record on the DVR to watch at my convenience.)
NCIS
Chicago Fire
Law & Order: SVU
Chicago PD
Hawaii 5-0
Blue Bloods
And can't wait for summer . . . season 2 of Under The Dome.
But that's just my tastes . . . not everyone will like the same things, just part of life. I've dealt with pushy types before who just cannot accept the fact that I either don't watch the shows they like or I'm not into sports.
I watch what I watch and I listen to the music I want to . . . pretty simple in my book, no?
And if you want to get really pushy, I'll simply reiterate that I watch what appeals to ME, not everyone else. I try not to shove what I prefer down other people's throats, so I expect the same level of courtesy in return. If life hands you lemons . . . find someone whose life is handing them vodka . . . and have a party - Ron "Tater Salad" White

I get this sometimes although fortunately, most people give up or leave me alone. Sometimes I'll take up a recommendation. Doctor Who was one I got nagged about by at least two people and I ended up blasting through it in about three months (NuWho). But most of the time . . . I just don't like the shows. Maybe I'm hard to impress. Torchwood? No. Once Upon A Time. No, no. Firefly? Hells no, and I don't care how much flack I get for that one. I gave these shows each about three episodes, and if I'm annoyed at most of what happens/not hooked by that point, I'm not gonna go through a whole series just because. Sat down with the bestie and her husband one Saturday and watched the first season of Walking Dead and we really did like it, but for some reason neither of us has bothered to catch up, and then I got her into Game of Thrones. I can usually find a fellow fan of *something* here or there without trying to convert someone.
Also I will never watch Breaking Bad because I deal with enough of those people in real life on a daily basis and do not find the premise entertaining or 'cool' in the least.A.K.A. ShinyGreenApple

Still don't have a TV, was gonna get one with my redundancy to use with my then brand new PC.
I used to only watch Dr Who on iPlayer as I had a 3gb mobile dongle till the house was cabled up instead of individual rooms that left the house blacklisted due to all the guys who moved out owing.
3GB for video wouldn't last long so I just had Red Vs Blue, Who and Shadow of Israphel (Yogscast minecraft 'story'), then I got 15GB for not much more and added the odd show to the iPlayer series record, QI and mock the week mainly.
I have a tonne of box set's to get through, but some of them I got just cos they were cheap but I have no real intention of watching them any time soon, I bought them knowing I would have some time off come the new year and it was better to pay £50 for all of Buffy when I had a job, then when I did not.
Out of all the box sets I have, I think Battle Star Galactica (both old, but not the on earth one and new) is the only one I actually finished, mostly due to the fact that I had marathoned season 1-3 borrowing guy up stairs DVD's.
I saw two episodes of the Walking dead when I was up at my brothers in December, current season I guess, I had no idea who was who and if any of it followed the comic as I had not read it, but it was too far into the season for me to feel invested with anything going on, some shows you should not start midway through a season, others should have the option to let you see if you like it and continue watching with or without seeing what had happened prior.
TWD didn't feel like that to me, that or I deliberately blanked it as I would not be around for the next episode and would more than likely torrent it then find out what UK channel it was on to use their catch up service and if I were to do that I would be starting from the beginning and why do that when I have DVD's gathering dust?
Breaking Bad, not seen, only seen animated gif's maybe I will buy the box set some day.
