  • Being tested on things

which the professor doesn't cover in class.

A couple of weeks ago, one of my professors said that some of things on the tests won't be covered in class. I guess this is an attempt to get students to read the text, but it makes the test 5 times more stressful when you don't even have a clue what to review. I'm just hoping there's going to be some study guide to give us an idea.

Good that he gave a warning.

did he tell you what subjects or pages? if he did that's basically reading for the course, if not and he just asked random stuff from the text then that's bull.

Not yet which is why I'm hoping there's a study guide (that would make up for this).

Has he assigned suggested reading assignments as time has gone on? I've had teachers do that where if you had read the suggested readings that weren't graded, you'd know it on the test.

It's a she, but no. We have assignments in class, but they are based on what she covers out of the book. When she mentioned stuff that would be on the test, she made it clear that it would be stuff that wasn't covered in class.

Yeah, I was always against the surprise items on a test, especially when the instructor was a complete fucking asshole. By that I mean the book would say X about a subject but he wouldn't agree, in class he would say Y. Which, I could almost tolerate if he openly said "THE BOOK SAYS X I don't agree and Believe the answer is Y" At least you could make a note.... nope not my econ professor, who was also pissed he was teaching intro to econ because if you cared about his field of study you would have taken macro and micro as two separate courses for a more in depth study.
