  • Idaho Bans Post 20-week Abortions...

... Even in cases of incest, rape, and fetal abnormality. Only if the health of the mother is actively threatened would it be allowed. Specifically her physical health, because mental health is meaningless. >_<

    Article at Reuters

Article at The Spokesman with more detail

This "hand of god" shit needs to go. Even if it was the "hand of god" (which I don't for one moment believe), that's not an excuse to eclipse free will. We need to wake up and throw these religious hypocrites out on their asses.

I foresee women and girls going out of state because of this.

How would anyone ever be able to challenge such a law? Courts move slowly, and pregnancies quickly. And once the woman is no longer pregnant, if I understand correctly, she no longer has standing.

So that's 4 2/3 months? Slow bringing it back. They seem to actually be playing the slow game for once.

        Isn't that technically illegal?

Probably, but let's face it - it's hard to prove and it's going to happen anyway.

I won't deny that. And I'd encourage any women living in states with oppressing laws against it to go somewhere else where women are allowed to make choices on their own bodies.

I foresee women and girls being unable to afford to travel out of state, and dying in a back alley.

My ex had a high school report that he did on abortion in the united states in the '70s. It included a wire coat hanger. It was supposed to be an oral report, but the teacher wouldn't let him present it, though he did get an A for the project.

I still want these fundie wackos out of my government.

I only know one girl who has had an abortion around here, and she went to Minnesota for it, because the next closest place was in Appleton, on the other side of Wisconsin.

and considered to be viable by the World Health Organization, and various North American Medical societies-probably the reason for the law. Two more weeks and the survival rate jumps to 70%.

Per Roe v.Wade abortion is only legal until viability, which by law is usually defined as greater than or equal to 50% survival rate, blame advances in medical technology that can increase survival rates. It's not always about the "pro-lifers" telling a woman what to do with her body, the law vs medical advances is more the case here. Just stating medical facts.

It depends on the age of the female seeking abortion, and if she(or someone pressuring her) is seeking to circumvent parental notification laws.

They're using medical findings as their basis, but when they seek to deny abortions for fetuses that would not be viable even 2 months later (2nd trimaster lasts until week 28, it seems), that tells you that it's not about when the fetus is viable but when they can force women to carry against their own wishes.

I want those fundies and right wing nut jobs out too. I heard back then some women would use knitting needles too for abortions .

Well with any luck, maybe in a year or two we can be practicing sharia law and abolish that god awful 19th amendment.

(Please note, I said my statement as a joke, but sadly I seriously think this is the way we are headed)

Muslims are not a big enough minority, let alone majority, to push through that significant a change in law. If we're headed in the direction of a theocracy, it's a Christian one.
