I don't dislike Naruto because it's popular, I dislike it because I got bored of the story. That's just me though. I did like - most - of the characters, but enjoyable characters weren't enough to pull me through the endless filler when I just wanted to freaking story to moooooove.

I love many different kinds of anime though; Sailor Moon, Witch Hunter Robin, Hellsing, Saiyuki, the list really does go on and on.

The rabid fans (or "Narutards" for the rabid Naruto fans) do really get on my nerves and make me dislike an anime more, but only if I originally didn't like it. It's just how it works. I'll try to give it another chance, but it'll be tainted by all the raging, foaming at the mouth, BS that I've been subjected to at anime conventions - this works for all anime I've disliked that I've met rabid fans for, not just Naruto.

What gets on my nerves more than rabid fans though, are the rabid slashers/shippers. The people who create their own favorite pairing from an anime/manga (whether or not it is supported by the anime or manga or not) and will start up a raging, flame, scream, temper-tantrum fest at another who ships one of their pairing with another character. It's ridiculous. I don't mind someone pairing Tuxedo Mask with say... Sailor Mars and enjoying that pairing, but when they start screaming at me for enjoying the official Tuxedo Mask paired with Sailor Moon/Neo Queen Serenity more, I'm going to get pissed.

Shippers are their own special brand of weird, I'll agree.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with shipping as long as we can all be mature adults about it. Oh, who are we kidding, rabid shippers are fun to provoke.

I've mentioned it before, but I love anime. I tend to gravitate more toward the darker sci-fi stuff, though I enjoy different shows for different reasons. Ouran High School Host Club is by far the most hilarious anime I've seen, but my husband hates it. I started Hellsing, but I really can't get into it. I'm trying to give it a chance because I love Alucard. Maybe if they had focused more on him and less on Seras, I'd like it more. Kaze no Stigma is a fun one, but the author of the manga died, so the story will never be finished.

Never was interested in Inuyasha or Naruto. I will admit to being snobbish about it. The rabid fans and the overabundance of memes have really turned me off. I crave character driven stories. And I've often said, if it's not weird, it's not anime. So if you don't need a flowchart to keep up with what's going on, it's probably not one I'll be interested in.

So Tenchi Muyo/Tenchi in Tokyo then?(heck, that series is complicated enough it has it's own WIKI, apparently)

I loved Ryo-ohki, and watched the show solely for that, the storyline gave me migraines....

Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle + xxxHolic + Card Captor Sakura (maybe) = massive headaches. Woo, CLAMP!

Ouran Host Club is hilarious, and so incredibly underrated.

I started Hellsing, but I really can't get into it. I'm trying to give it a chance because I love Alucard. Maybe if they had focused more on him and less on Seras, I'd like it more.
But the story is entirely about Seras Victoria. Alucard is a walking deus ex machina - any time there's an opponent that Alucard shouldn't be able to beat with his known abilities, he busts out new "repressed" abilities that utterly curb-stomp the opponent. The only opponent that he doesn't do that to is Anderson, but that's because he's written as a foil - the Irresistible Force to Alucard's Immovable Object.

Kaze no Stigma is a fun one, but the author of the manga died, so the story will never be finished.
Heard of it, but haven't explored it. Knowing that it's incomplete and will never be complete (because of the way the Japanese handle such things, it'll simply be dropped, instead of completed by a ghost writer), I have no interest.

              Never was interested in Inuyasha
Inu Yasha is stereotypical Rumiko Takahashi. She writes wonderful concepts, and then gets bored and rather than wrap up the story, she leaves in the hands of her support staff while she goes to explore something new. Inu Yasha's first season is fairly interesting (even if the characters are a bit shallow), and then it devolves into Monster-of-the-Week drek. The only project she's ever completed satisfactorily (that I'm aware of) is Maisson Ikkoku. She has a very hard time giving up romantic conflict in order to resolve anything.

...or Naruto. I will admit to being snobbish about it. The rabid fans and the overabundance of memes have really turned me off. I crave character driven stories.
Naruto is very much a character-driven story, but executive meddling has resulted in a lot of stuff that makes it far less interesting, and far more drawn out than it needed to be. In a way, Naruto has a lot of the hallmarks of a Monkey King story (much like Hunter X Hunter and One Piece). The thing that "breaks" Naruto for me is that Sasuke is so emotionally weak, that he does things that are mind-bogglingly stupid, in the pursuit of more power and (supposed) independence, while sacrificing his own independence and any semblance of integrity.

I don't mind filler episodes, but I really hate filler seasons.

I'm considered an anime snob, only cause I'm picky about the anime I watch.

I'm a Rurouni Kenshin fanatic. Have been for nearly 10 years. I know wayyyyy too many facts and since the manga is being rebooted for two volumes in Japan, I got the first one automatically the moment I stepped into Tsutaya.

I also love Ouran Host Club, since to me, its making FUN of every Shoujo anime type.

I enjoy Detective Conan, and liked Trigun and Squid Girl (Gintama gets a few chuckles too)

Otherwise, I'm strictly about manga. Shoujo Manga or the Ju-On (The Grudge) Manga....although "Sadako" looks interesting too.

As for popular ones like Bleach and Naruto, I will admit I got bored quickly, and the hyper rabid fans pushed me away even more. >>
I used to like Inuyasha and Ranma, but Takahashi Rumiko disappointed me.

I am also picky about what I watch, but I don't make fun of other people who want to watch things I don't like or am not interested in (which is a lot of stuff). It's the idea that your preferences make you somehow superior is what makes a person an anime snob.

(I tend to like anime like Emma, Kino's Journey, Mushishi, Twelve Kingdoms etc.- things with compelling stories that aren't all about the mecha/catgirl/sword fights. It's rare I find anyone with similar tastes. I am watching Gundam Z and enjoying it right now.)

Well, I don't make fun of them for liking what I don't like, but I am still a snob because I am quick to run away from Naruto/Bleach/Popular anime I don't like

                    I am open about my distaste for it, but I won't mock you for liking it. Whatever boats your float. (yes, I do say it like that) Just please don't mind my straight refusals of connecting with it xD;

That doesn't make you a snob, and anyone who tries to claim you are for that is being a twat.

It's when you feel superior to others for liking what you like and making out that people who like more "common" fare (whtever that might be) are lesser fans, somehow.

                      ^-.-^

Be that as it may, I find Alucard infinitely more interesting than Seras. Her I find a little annoying, to be honest. I watched the original anime and I started the OVAs, so maybe they'll get better. But I would like to see more of Alucard's relationship with Integra. I'll finish it one of these days, but I'm not in any hurry.

I should watch Wolf's Rain or Requiem for the Phantom again. Those satisfy my need for some plot with my violence.

Heh. I have to admit, I really loathe Sasuke as a character myself. At first, I thought it was just unreasonable dislike, until I found myself mouthing, "Kill the little shit, for fuck's sake, Itachi" at the screen. XD

My favourite episodes are the ones with the Sand siblings, and I admit to having skipped a lot of the filler. -.- Some of the filler episodes are entertaining but a lot are just mindless dreck.
"Oh wow, I can't believe how stupid I used to be and you still are."

I don't care for anime, but I think that attitude exists in other hobbies too. It's all in the attitude. If you like something we may not have heard of, great. If you turn up your nose to people who haven't heard of the anime/movie/game you like you can either act stuck up, or give a recommendation. Recommendations are welcome! Snobbery is not.

You follow a lot more of Alucard and find out a lot more of his backstory in the manga, so if you're interested I'd go to those rather than relying on the animes.

Alucard is infinitely more interesting than Seras, in my opinion. During the entire manga you're sitting there trying to figure out what he really thinks of humans because he's incredibly closed about what he really thinks. Sure he says he thinks certain things, but when you look at his physical reactions (and ignore what he says because he lies like a mother effin' rug) you can see something completely different.

That, to me, is way more interesting than watching Seras trying to come to terms with being a vampyre. Even then, she's way more interesting in the manga than the animes too.

                              Side note:

Most super heroes/magical heroes etc. follow the path of "Oh I can't defeat them? OH LOOK POWER UP!"
Sailor Moon and Power Rangers do this every.single.season. (Oh, and Dragon Ball Z. \/ ) XD
