Unanimous approval pretty much means can't be changed.
. And it's not irrelevant. I'm saying if something is stupid, we should change it.
although if you think that a constitutional amendment banning poll taxes is stupid, then i thank all the higher powers that may be that yours is not the only opinion that matters. i'd much rather not live in a country where the poor (primarily minorities and the young) are disenfranchised by burdensome poll taxes, which is what happened before the 24th amendment was passed and what would likely happen again if it got repealed.

Originally posted by linguist View Postif you think something is stupid, then by all means take the appropriate steps to change it. but until it's changed, you still have to adhere to the law as it stands.

When was the last time Congress or the Senate came to a unanimous decision on anything important? Seriously, if we had that attitude today, blacks would never have had rights, women would never have had rights, abortions wouldn't be legal, gays wouldn't get rights. Shit would never get done. Ever.
I never said anything about poll taxes. I dare you to find anything in any of my posts that said we should tax people for voting.Last edited by linguist; 06-20-2011, 04:36 AM.

Originally posted by linguist View Postyou were the one who started talking about overturning "stupid" laws when the 24th amendment was brought into the conversation. you are also the one who seems to be advocating a system wherein people would be forced to pay for ids that would be required for them to vote, which would be a poll tax.Violence has resolved more conflicts than anything else.
