this morning my wife wasn't feeling well, so she calls work and says she's just gonna be an hour late so she can get some medicine into her and get cleaned up.
Boss says no big deal, then about 10 minutes later sends my wife a text saying "don't bother to come in at all today, I got ben to come in". then another text "in fact, you can take tomorrow and wednesday off too."
had a real nasty tone to them, so she calls and asks whats up. Boss says "well first of all you're not above anyone and you should know that calling in sick on a delivery day is grounds for termination!"
So she's 0/3 for now because A) wife never claimed, hinted or acted like she's "above anyone", second, she didn't call in sick, and finally calling in on a delivery day isn't automatic grounds for termination.
then she explains that the girl who came in to cover gets paid more, and so she has to cut my wife's hours down because of this.
It was uncalled for, for one thing. My wife is an awesome employee and the fact that she just asked for an extra hour rather than took the whole day off in the face of awful stomach problems says a lot about her.
And it was unprofessional, and we both know the woman who's the boss and she's always doing unprofessional shit. Blabbing on to whoever will listen about store business. Blabbing to employees about other employees. "Josh is so lazy I'm gonna write him up. I've written molly up a bunch of times! She's lazy too. Look there's no cameras in this part of the store!"
I'm rather proud of the mrs. for handling it the way she did - she spoke calmly to her boss, and when she got nowhere, called the boss's boss and asked what gives. He basically told her that her boss was full of shit and he'd talk to her about it, and he did so without admitting she was told on.
