The best (worst) censoring I've ever seen will always be the Comedy Central showing of Cheech & Chong's Next Movie. The marijuana was turned into diamond chips... alien diamond chips or something insipid like that... you know, to explain why everybody was acting stoned and Studenko turned into a lizard.

Self Censoring. In the movie Across the Universe there is a scene where Max and Jude upon meeting for the first time are smoking a joint with Max's friends.

      Oh wait no they aren't.

In order to get the rating they wanted they chose to have the joint be invisible. They make the hand gestures of smoking and passing a joint but not actually having one there so it seems almost like the guys are just goofing around pretending to smoke a joint but some people may think they see a joint when none actually exists.

I just don't consider "bucking" authority to be that bad. It's one of those things you just have to deal with if you want to be in power. You left a loophole, I took advantage of it. Get over it.

Well, even though I do swear when I am upset, I was always told that profanity is the feeble attempt of a weak mind to express itself forcefully.

That always makes me feel a little bad about myself when I sink to that level.
                Point to Ponder:

Is it considered irony when someone on an internet forum makes a post that can be considered to look like it was written by a 3rd grade dropout, and they are poking fun of the fact that another person couldn't spell?

Weak mind my ass. It depends a lot on context and how it's used. Of the people I have ever heard slam profanity as being something only weak people do that is usually said to me by intellectuals that usually prove to not really be as smart as people think they are.

                    I don't know.
If a person lacks the intelligence to make a rational argument and then just resorts to profanity, I can see the validity in that line.

I mean, "F*ck you, you f*cking jackbooted Nazi moderator. Go f*ck yourself with a rusty knife," while slightly creative with the "rusty knife" taunt, on the whole doesn't seem as intelligent as saying, "I do not agree with your ruling. I feel it is biased against me. On the whole, I find the moderating style on this forum to be overly aggressive and very subjective. Here are some examples to back me up..."

                    Ya know what I mean?

No I totally get it hell I hear nothing but swearing you start to drown the person out but I don't believe a person is automatically a moron because a swear word passes their lips.

There are a lot of people that do. In some people's minds you could be Einstein but if you stub your toe and say, "Shit that hurt" you are suddenly a moron they are worried will stab himself with a pencil

Actually, I have found that some very intelligent people come up with the best "swearing" by not actually using standard curse words.

                        Look at Gravekeepr's posts.
He seems like a very intelligent person.
I always look forward to seeing some of his more creative ways of avoiding actual profanity.

He could take the easy route and go for the cheap laughs by calling his customer a fucking mororn, but isn't it much more entertaining to read this:
Your dim comprehension, lack of conversational skills and inability to properly pronounce any letter that would require articulated lips has admittedly raised my suspicions. If you are indeed human, this would be a sad state of affairs and my faith in our species would suffer yet another catastrophic decline. However, if you were say……some sort of clandestine lab experiment to enhance the intelligence of a duck, that would actually be quite impressive and make perfect sense.

Yes it is. And my estimation of someone going around saying things like fucking moron would lower my estimation of the person's intelligence I was just pointing out that some people think ANY USE of swearing is the sign of stupidity.

I believe that cuss words have their place, they're part of the english language for a reason, and sometimes an "Oh fuck!" gets the point across better than "Golly gee whiz!" ever will.

My main issue with swearing is when it's overused, or when people use it as a debate tactic.
To me, when somebody in a debate starts throwing too many cuss words and personal insults around, it accomplishes one of three things:
-The excessive swearing and insults obscure whatever good point the person was trying to make.
-It says that the person doing it maybe doesn't have much faith in their own argument- on some level they think their point is weak, and are using the swears and insults to prop it up.
-It says that the person has nothing in terms of a good rebuttal, and the tirade of cursing is just a smokescreen.

As for the argument that swearing is only done by the weak minded and unintelligent, I despise that sort of pseudo-intellectual snobbery.

Maybe questioning the intelligence of someone who peppers their everyday conversation with profanity is wrong and snobbish, but if so, then I guess I am a pseudo-intellectual snob.

I don't think it is "pseudo-intellectual snobbery" though.

If I am talking with someone whose every sentence is punctuated with "f*ck" and "f*cking", I am going to form a rather biased opinion of their intelligence.
To me, it does show a lack of class.

That being said, I have already admitted to swearing when I am really mad about something.
On the internet, I tend to use a lot more profanity than I do in my real life, although at work, I often get so frustrated and angry that I use a lot more swearing than I would like.

That makes me feel like I am failing myself in some way because I think it does make me seem low class and trashy.

My parents used to be so strict on language that even saying "oh my god!" would get me a smack in the mouth.

I swear like a pirate now. Guess it worked real well for them.

I wouldn't be so narrowminded as to judge someone based on their swearing. I tend to focus on the facts and not other made up bullshit like a swear word they said, or that they mispelled a word or the color of their skin. Guess I'm just that smart.

Actually swearing helps me with my stutter as well. I don't like to stutter and swears are easy to get out, so I tend to pop in a fuck or shit or goddamn every now and then to keep my flow going.

There's few things more annoying than making some sort of argument, like "Sir, there was no way I c-c-could have been the one who stole your money, because I've b-b-b-een at Denny's for the past 2 hours, and I'm on c-c-c-c-amera there."

"Oh really you were at D-D-D-D-D-enny's? Did you have a g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-grand slam?"

It should be legal to hit these people.
